Merry December!

Hello, Parents!  We have had a wonderful week!  It felt great to get back into the “swing of things!”  Our Advent Service was amazing!  All of the kids did an excellent job…THANK YOU for supporting us as we witnessed about Jesus!

Several Upcoming Events that I would like to bring to your attention:
*Mid-Terms are coming home today with your child!  Please be on the lookout for these.

*For the past several years, instead of purchasing Christmas gifts for one another in here, our class has decided to get gifts for someone in need.  Our class voted to get gift cards for some families, sponsored by Community Service League.  The students really want to use their own money to help with this, and are going to ask your permission to use money from their own allowances or savings, if you are in agreement.  I am very proud of them and their giving spirits!  Please pray about this with your child, and thank you for raising humble little Christians!   We will need to have the money in by next Friday, please.  Thank you!

*We have our first basketball games tonight!
Timothy 4/5 girls vs. Calvary 5/6 girls @ 6:00 p.m.
Timothy 6/7/8 girls vs. Calvary 7/8 girls @7:00 p.m.

Performance Attire – think “beach”:
Pants: shorts are first choice. Black, khaki, Bermuda (red or green is a first choice). If you really want your child in pants, then black or khaki.
Tops: Red, green, Hawaiian – again, think beach, but no swim suits
Shoes: Sandals with heel strap, tennis shoes, but, please, NO FLIP FLOPS.  They are a tripping hazard during the choreography

*We are planning our Bowling/Christmas Caroling Party for Tuesday, December 19th, so please mark your calendars.  More details will come home about this very soon, but we will need drivers—either to go bowling and back to school, or from caroling and back to school, or BOTH!  Thanks!

Here is what we have been up to:
Religion-We are learning about David, Jonathan, and Saul, and about the power of friendship! We have also been discussing jealousy, which was why Saul wanted to kill David.  We discussed what causes jealousy, and have helped each other choose more God-pleasing choices.  We talked about how jealousy often leads to more anger, hurt, and separation from others.  This, in turn, causes the jealousy to have control over our thoughts, feelings, and actions.  It is because of God’s great love for us that He sent Jesus to die in our place, and rise again, so we can have that forgiveness when envy and jealousy take over our hearts.  We prayed the prayer taught to us by Apostle Paul, “May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.”
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17.

Memory Work for Next Week:
December 5- betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.

December 8- THE NINTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house,
or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

Language Arts- We shared book reports today and received information about our December/January ones.  J  We finished up Stuart Little today.  We loved it and wished that E.B. White had written a sequel!

Spelling Words for next Friday, December 8th: (more homophones)
wait, weight, heard, herd, days, daze, heel, heal, peak, peek, sent, cent, scent, feet, feat, fain, vane, vein, miner, minor, principal, principle, *horrendous

Science- We finished our cell posters, and will begin talking about classifying living things.

Art- We made beautiful stained glass nativity scenes with oil pastels.  These will be hanging in the Mid-Continent Public Library (south 7 highway) this month, so please go and check them out!

Music-We practiced our songs for the Advent service and for the Christmas program.  Mr. Burns has been teaching us a lot of new moves, and we are having fun!

P.E.-This week, we finished up our dodgeball unit by playing Traitor Ball and Pin Doctor Dodgeball.  Nest week, we will begin basketball skills.

God’s Blessings,
Kim
