Can you believe 101 days of school have past?

Hello, Parents!  It has been another fun week!  We celebrated the 100th day of school yesterday! We celebrated with 100 Day Centers all morning with our 3rd grade friends!  Can you believe that much time has gone by?  Goodness!

*Please pray for our little class, as we have had so much sickness going around!  Today, we only had 5 students in here…THANK YOU!

*Thank you for your donations to the American Heart Association during Timothy’s Jump Rope for Heart event!  Our school raised $2, 480 for this cause, and we had a ton of fun jumping and using the amazing hearts that God has given us!  Our own Bryce Hirsch was our school’s biggest earner!  Way to go, Bryce!
THANK YOU!

Please see below for some exciting upcoming events:

*This weekend, our 4/5/6 grade basketball teams play in their league tournament at Trinity Lutheran School in Atchison, KS.  I know that is a hike out there, but if you would like to come and see us play and cheer us on, our first games are tonight!
First games:
Girls-Friday night, 2/2, at 7:00 against Christ
Boys-Friday night, 2/2, at 8:00 against Christ

Address:  611 N. 8th Street, Atchison, KS 66002

*Our new service project is collecting food for Harvesters.  Each Chapel family has a box, located in the hall outside our school hallway,  to collect goods.  We will he having some fun with this!  We will collect all the way through March 2nd.  Thank you!

*We are traveling over to the ECC on Wednesday and Thursday (2/7 and 2/8) of next week to lead them in their Chapel.  What a wonderful way for us share our faith with the little ones!  We will leave school around 9:20 and be back by 10:30.  Their chapel is at 9:45.  We only need one or two drivers.  If you are able to help, please use the sign-up link below.  Thank you!

*Your child should be working on his or her Science Project at home.  When your child needs the display board, I have them here at school.  I just need to be asked by them.  Thanks!  Mrs. Stack will be visiting again on Wednesday to see how the kiddos are coming along.

*We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 14th, (which is also Ash Wednesday—we will talk about the neat connection!) Please send valentines (one for each child) with your son or daughter to school.  We will have a special time to pass those out.  If you would like to send in snacks, please just let me know!  We will do a bit of celebrating in the afternoon.  Thank you!

*We will be having our student-led parent teacher conferences February 15 and 16th.  Kiddos are leading these!  They will share important work, mid-terms, and personal report cards.  Please use the sign-up below to choose conference times/dates.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- We have learned all about Daniel and the Lion’s Den.  We talked about Daniel’s faith and talked about the “lions” in our own lives.

Language Arts-We have been reading Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.  This is such an amazing story.  Next week, we will finish it up.  We shared historical fiction book reports on Wednesday.  These were great!  Be sure to check out the students in costume on our blog page.

Math- We worked with order of operations this week, and the kiddos have really caught on!  We worked through word problems that had 2 or 3 operations, and they are doing great!

Science-Next week we will finish up out unit the Plant Kingdom on and have a test on Monday, February 12th

Art- We made woven hearts this week to decorate our classroom.  They are beautiful!  Next week, we will decorate our valentine bags and make valentines for you!

Writing-We have learned what persuasive essays are and have begun writing them.  Most are past the planning stages, and will begin drafting and publishing next week.
