Happy Weekend!

Hi, Parents!  We have had a great week, and have been working SO hard!  Mrs. Krekel came back yesterday!  We sure did miss her, and will continue to pray for her full healing.  Praise God that she is doing better!

Please see below for some exciting upcoming events:

*This weekend, our 7/8 graders will play in their league tournament at Martin Luther Academy in Kansas City.  If you can, please come and cheer them on!
Girls-Friday night, 2/9, at 5:30 against MLA
Boys-Saturday morning, 2/10, at 1:00
Address:  7112 North Overland Drive, Kansas City, MO 64014

*Our new service project is collecting food for Harvesters.  Each Chapel family has a box, located in the hall outside our school hallway,  to collect goods.  We will he having some fun with this!  We will collect all the way through March 2nd.  Thank you!  Bring on the canned goods!

*We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day next Wednesday, February 14th, (which is also Ash Wednesday—we will talk about the neat connection!) Please send valentines (one for each child) with your son or daughter to school.  We will have a special time to pass those out.  If you would like to send in snacks, please just let me know!  We will do a bit of celebrating in the afternoon.  Thank you!

*We will be having our student-led parent teacher conferences next Thursday and Friday, February 15 and 16th.  Kiddos are leading these!  We will be working to prepare for these early next week.  They will share important work, mid-terms, and personal report cards.  Please use the sign-up below to choose conference times/dates.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- We traveled over to the ECC this week to share a chapel message with them about God’s Love.  We taught them John 3:16.  :)  In class, we discussed Jesus’ birth and how the prophets shared that message thousands of years before.

Memory for next week:
February 13-and I pray You to forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night.  For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

February 16- Say the entire Evening Prayer.

Language Arts-We finished up reading “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.”  What a sad ending to this story—but it was beautiful and it led us to some great conversations about the war, about cancer, and about our faith.  Next week, we will work in our basals again and read the story, “Jose! Born to Dance.”  We also finished up our DEAR Time selection, “Tuck Everlasting.”  Wow!  This story kept us on the edge of our seats… We will be going to see this play at the Coterie Theatre on March 23rd.  mark your calendars!  Thanks!

Spelling Words for next Friday, February 16th:
learn, dirty, worn, sore, thirst, burn, record, cure, board, course, worth, early, return, pure, world, search, worse, thirteen, sport, current, curious, thorough, *hypothesize

Math- We finished up our unit on patterns and order of operations and tested this week.  We also began Unit 8 about fractions.  Bring it on!  We had two kiddos pass their Winstead’s Multiplication Test too—Congrats to Siarya and Karli!  Whoopee!

Science-We finished up our unit on the Animal and Plant Kingdoms and we will have a test on Monday, February 12th.  We will play Science Jeopardy today to prepare!  Your child should be working on his or her Science Project at home.  Mrs. Stack visited on Wednesday to make sure all of the kids were on track.  :)  When your child needs the display board, I have them here at school.  They just need to pick on up!

Art- We made valentine bags and heart pictures this week.

Writing-We worked on our persuasive essays.  Many are at the publishing step.  These will be due by the end of February.

P.E.-We played “Crazy Arcade” this week!  Ask your kiddo about that one!  ;)

* Below, are pictures of our basketball teams!  Both groups did a great job last weekend, with the girls winning their side of the bracket, and snagging the Consolation trophy!  Way to go Rams!

Have a WONDERFUL weekend!
God’s Blessings,
Kim
