It has been a great week... :)

Hello Parents!  I hope your week has been a great one!  It was lovely to see moms and grandmas on Wednesday morning for Morning with Mom!  We had some fun interviewing you.  Some kiddos will be bringing this home this weekend to finish up interviews.  We will be using these for an upcoming biographical paper.  J

*We have ONE LAST WEEK left in the 3rd Quarter!!  Can you believe it?  This means that any incomplete work needs to be in by next Friday…and we have a 1:00 dismissal next Friday!

*There are several sign-ups below in the Upcoming Events.  Please check them out: Coterie Theatre, helping at the ECC, and Harvesters.  Thank you!

Here is what we have been up to:
Religion- We have finished up Unit 6 by learning how Jesus preached in Nazareth and how He raised Jairus’ daughter.  Next week, we will learn about His parables and more of His miracles!

Language Arts- This week, we read the true story of Sacajawea, Charbonneau, their son Pomp, and Lewis and Clark.   This goes hand-in-hand with what we are studying in Missouri History!   We also talked a lot about abbreviations this week.

We also have a new Author of the Month!  We are studying Jeff Brown and this week, read the story Flat Stanley.  We will be doing the Flat Stanley project as well!  If you have not heard of this, in the story, Stanley becomes flat when the bulletin board above his bed falls on him during the night.  He has a lot of adventures being flat, but his favorite is that his parents folded him up and mailed him to visit his best friend who lived in California.  After the visit, they sent him back home in an envelope too!  SO, we are going to do this as well!  Your child has created a “flat themselves,” and has written a friendly letter to someone that they know that may live in another state or country.  That person will just need to hang out with your “flat” son or daughter for a few days, maybe take some pictures, and write a few words about their adventures, and then mail him or her back.  We will supply all the postage and envelopes.  We are so excited to see where our flat class travels!  We only need just a couple of things from you:  First, please help your child decide who be a good candidate for this letter.  (Most already have great ideas!) Secondly, please send the address to school with your child.  He or she will be learning how to address envelopes too.  I realize that sending friendly letters is perhaps a “dying” art, but I still think it is one that they need to experience, and know how to do!  Plus, it is fun to receive notes in the mail, and we will learn a few things about their travels to different states and/or countries.  Thank you for your help with this!  You can just email me the address, if you choose!  Thanks!

Math-This week, we learned how to read word problems with fractions, how to find their common denominators to put them in order, and to decide which fractions were larger.  We are getting really skilled at this!  We also have begun working with mixed numbers, and some real-life math, which is what it is all about!

Missouri History-This week, we learned more about the Native Americans native to Missouri and about the first Europeans here.  We will finish up Chapter 3 on Monday and test over it on Friday.  I have attached the study guide that I have sent home with the kids.

Art- We finished up our wild things.  They are hanging in the hallway for you to enjoy!
Writing- We had Readers’ Theatre and shared our persuasive essays.
P.E.- We played a tag game called Hook On!  This was a favorite!
Music-  We have been practicing the songs and skits for our upcoming musical.
