March Madness! ;)

Hello Parents!  It has been so wonderful to have a FULL week of school without many abnormalities!  ;)  I hope you have had a great week as well!

*Please don’t forget Morning With Mom next Wedensday-7:45!  See you then!
*On Friday, March 23rd, we will be traveling to Coterie Theatre located inside Crown Center, 2450 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108, to see the play Tuck Everlasting. This is the play based on the book we just read in class by Natalie Babbit.  We will leave school at 8:45 and return by 12:00, just in time for lunch!  (All of 4th grade is invited to attend.) We will need several drivers for this field trip!  All tickets, students and parents, are $5.50.  I have paid for this in full, so please send in cash or checks to me.  Thank you!  I have reserved 20 seats for us.  Here is the sign-up link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4dadab2da7f58-coterie

Here is what we have been up to:
Religion- We have been learning about Jesus’ miracles: turning water into wine, healing the official’s son, and healing 10 lepers.  We are reminded of God’s miracles daily!  We have talked about how to “be” Jesus for those around us.  I have to share with you that I LOVE the conversations that we have in Religion class daily!  Your children cease to floor with me with their love, insight, and faith. :)  Today we had some scenarios that were a “What Would You Do?” type thing.  They had to respond how they would act if they did not know Jesus, and then how they would act as followers of Jesus.  It was so hard for them to comprehend how people can be mean in certain situations…and it was so refreshing to hear.  They were quick to want to stand up to wrong, and to right each situation.  I am reminded daily that I am SO blessed to teach here and to be able to discuss these things and not only talk about the right things to do, but why it is the right thing to do.  It is what God would want from us as His children.  It is a blessing, as well, that we are able to talk about those times that we don’t choose to do the right thing, and the confession and forgiveness that follows.  Thank you for raising such amazing kids and sharing them with me!

Reading- We read a true story about a screech owl this week, that we all loved.  We also shared our Mystery book reports.  Our movie posters are hanging in the hall.  Come check them out!  They are fabulous!  We received information about our next book report about a non-fiction book.  Next week, we will read the story of Sacajawea.   This will go hand in hand with what we are studying in Missouri History.

Math-We are knee deep in fractions and doing well!  This week we learned how to make equivalent fractions, how to put them in simplest form, and how to order them.  Some of this was challenging, but ALL of the kiddos worked hard and are mastering it!  Next week, we will be adding and subtracting like fractions.

Missouri History-This week, we have read about the Native Americans that lived in Missouri and about the traditions, clothing, and lifestyles of the Osage.  It was so interesting!  Next week, we will be learning about the Europeans that first came to Missouri and a bit about Louis and Clark.

Art- We read the story, “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak.  After this, we drew our own wild things, and then learned how to paint them using different shades and tints of the same primary or secondary color.  We will make a jungle for them next week, and let them hang from the branches!
Writing/Computer-We finished up our persuasive essays and will read them in Readers’ Theatre next week!
P.E.- We enjoyed some time outside this week!
Music-  We have been practicing the songs and skits for our upcoming musical.  Boy, do we have some excited kids around here!
