It’s been another fun week in 4th grade! It is hard to believe that October begins next
week!
The Walk-A-Thon is today! You can feel the energy around here! Thank you to all of you that could help out
or donate. Your child will come home
with their name tag telling you just how far they walked today! I think you’ll be impressed. :) You
can send in your donations/collections until October 10th.
Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- We have been talking about the stories of
Isaac, Jacob, and Esau. These stories
remind us that even when we feel completely alone, we actually aren’t! God is with us ALWAYS! We did AMAZING reciting our New Testament books today!
Memory for next week:
October 2-Beautiful Savior,
King of Creation,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I'd love Thee,
Truly I'd serve Thee,
Light of my soul, my Joy, my Crown.
October 5-Fair are the meadows,
Fair are the woodlands,
Robed in flowers of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer;
He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.
Language Arts- We finished up Tales of a Fourth
Grade Nothing this week. We all
loved it, and are rather sad to see it go!
Next week, we will get back into our reading basals, and will be
performing a short skit based on the book we just read! This week, we also worked with how to use
commas. Book reports and projects are
due Monday! We will learn about October’s book report next week. Today was “Bucket-Filler Friday!” in here…we
all wrote friendly letters to our friends, filling them with words of
affirmation, care, and love. This was so
very much fun!
Spelling Words for the Week of October 5th:
Story: Focus on Plays (We will be working with homonyms!)
heard, herd, loan, lone, flea, flee, hall, haul, forth,
fourth, heal, heel, steak, stake, pare, pear, berry, bury, groan, grown
Challenge Word:
integrity
Math- This week, we worked on long subtraction with
regrouping, and also subtracting across zeroes.
Social Studies- We took our first Missouri History
test on Monday, and ALL of the kiddos did fantastic! They are learning so much!
Science- We began our first Science unit this week
too…all about Living Things. We will be
studying cells, and the plant and animal kingdoms. This week we talked about being a scientist
and scientific method.
SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We discussed contour lines this week, and
learned how to do blind contour drawings.
We then looked at adorable cat pictures, found the contour lines of the
cat, and made our own. Afterwards, we
painted them with tempera paint. They
are so beautiful!
Writing- We read a story entitled “The Best Part of
Me.” We then discussed the favorite
parts of ourselves, and wrote about them.
We talked about being PROUD of who we are, and how God made us! We are made in His image and are beautiful
creations! We based this writing project
on Psalm 139:14a: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” I
LOVE this project!
P.E.-We played outside this week, enjoying the cooler
weather! We played a lot of “Man on
Mars!” :)
