Fun in Fourth Grade!

Hi, Parents!  It has been a fun week in the 4th Grade!

Highlights from this week and important info:
*The auction last Saturday was a HUGE success!  Thank you all for your prayers and contributions!  We raised $28,036.28 for our scholarship program!  Praise God!

*We had our all-school packing party for Operation Christmas Child on Wednesday afternoon!  It was so very delightful to see the Chapel Families working together to build these boxes, and then praying over them for each child that will receive it.  The comradery and teamwork that I witnessed was AMAZING and just reiterated to me what we are all about—serving Jesus!  It was an incredible afternoon!  As a school, we packed over 173 boxes!  Praise God!

*Yesterday, we shared the ECC Chapel message with the preschoolers.  We talked to them about being thankful for all of the wonderful gifts God has given us!  We also taught them how to sing our favorite classroom song, “This is the Day.”  We had a lot of fun sharing the Good News with them!

*Today, we finished up our First Thanksgiving Unit and had a feast!  All of the Pilgrims and Wampanoags in here ate a ton, and had fun celebrating our many, MANY blessings! Check out our Pilgrim and Wampanoag names!

*No school next week due to teachers conferences and Thanksgiving.  Our conferences are really wonderful as every Lutheran school in the state of Missouri gathers together for worship, sectionals, and several keynote speeches.  We will be traveling to a central location for all of the Missouri Lutheran schools - the Lake of the Ozarks.  It will be a great time to get away, bond as a staff, and recharge our teacher brains!

*4th grade hosts our school chapel on Wednesday, November 28th!  If you can, please come!

*We attend the School of Economics, Thursday, November 29th!   (This is the week when we return after Thanksgiving Break!)  We have been working SO hard in our classrooms, and are excited to put all of that knowledge to work!
There have been some changes to the schedule that day because the other school we are attending with, Daniel Young, had some needs.  We are going to begin our day there at 9:10.  Our parents that are going with us, need to be there by 8:30 to receive training.  SO, please either bring your child to the School of Economics at 8:30 that day, OR have them to school by 8:00, so that we can be ready to leave by 8:10.  Please let me know which one you prefer by Monday, November 26th!  Thank you!
Address: 200 NW 14th Street, Blue Springs, MO 64015
*We will be leaving there at about 1:00.  When we return to school, we will be practicing for the Christmas program.  Thanks!
Reminders:
The cost for this field trip is $15. Please send this in at any time.  Students will NOT need to pack a lunch, as this fee includes food for them.

Thank you so much!

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
Religion-We talked about Gideon and Samson this week, as well as the many blessings that God has given to us!  We continued talking about the commandments, and this week discussed the 6th commandment.  I wanted to let you know that we had some very mature conversations in here concerning this, and your kiddos may come home with some questions.  We talked a lot about respecting spouses, and respecting people of the opposite gender.  With all of the things that have been in the news lately, this brought up some great conversations about God’s expectations for us.  I just wanted you to be aware!  …and once again, I am humbled by your children and their respect for one another and for God!
We will not have Memory the week we return to school.  This will start back up December 4th.

Language Arts/Social Studies:   We learned all about the Pilgrims and the Wampanoags this week, by reading several books and completing some fun activities.  We also read “Across the Wide, Dark Sea” as a whole class.

Spelling Words for Friday, November 30th:
famous, telephone, lunchbox, between, gentlemen, library, grove, disconnect, fad, receive, *omnipotent

Math- We completed some Wampanoag multiplication, as well as estimating products.  We also worked with School of Economics studies this week!  We learned what jobs we had, divided up into shops, started writing checks, pricing our items, making our shop signs, etc.

SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We made Wampanoag art, using native American symbols.  Our beautiful artwork is hanging in the hallway!
Writing/Computer-We wrote about what our families do on Thanksgiving, and wrote down our favorite family recipes.  We will put these in a class book!
