Happy Weekend and Happy Veterans Day! :)

Hi, Parents!  We have had another great week in 4th grade!  It has been busy, but fun!

It was so GREAT to see all of our dads/grandparents/and special people in Wednesday morning for Donuts with Dad!  It was a packed house!

Today was our Veterans Day program and it was SO beautiful!  We had quite a turnout!  The children sang several amazing songs about being Americans, my favorite being a song entitled, “Bought With a Price.”  Of course, we also sang “God Bless the U.S.A.,” and I am not sure there was a dry eye in the house!  It was a beautiful morning!  Getting able to share that experience with my dad, husband, and father-in-law, was very special to me too.  THANK YOU, Veterans, for giving of yourselves for the rest of us.  We closed with this prayer, which is very poignant:
Dear Lord, we honor our veterans in your name. We thank you – as we thank them – for their sacrifice. We ask you to return to them the favor of your blessing, a gift we on our own could never offer. We ask that you would give our veterans a peace beyond the peace they fought to secure, a peace in their own hearts, wrapped in the joy of a life touched by your strong hand. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

We have some important events coming up.  Please take the time to read below:
*TLS AUCTION – TIMOPOLY  is tomorrow, November 10th at 6:00!  There are many ways to support Timothy Lutheran School’s auction.  This is our largest fundraiser of the year and provides vital funding for our school.  Check out our website for detailed information, to make a donation, or to purchase tickets (it’s not too late!!!)  We are all going to have such a fun time! www.timothylutheranschool.com

Here is our project:

*WE SING ON SUNDAY—11/11!  (Kindergarten-8th grade) Please have your child at the north site (425 R.D. Mize Road, Blue Springs) at 7:45 on Sunday.  They sing during the offering at the 8:00 service, can stay to worship, and then sing at the beginning of the 9:30 service.  Please have them wear Timothy shirts, or school colors.  Thank you!

*Operation Christmas Child!  Collection ended today, but we can still use more items!
Next Wednesday, November 14 – All-School packing party in the afternoon

*We are headed over to the ECC to help host their Chapel services next Thursday, November 15th.  We would need to leave school around 9:15, and will be ready to come back about 10:15-10:30.  We just need transportation to and from.  Please indicate below if you can help out!  Thank you so much!

*Next Friday, November 16th, at 11:00, the 4th graders will have their classroom Thanksgiving Feast in lieu of lunch. We will be studying the first Thanksgiving all next week, and all about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians. We will also be talking about all the things we, as Christian Americans, should be thankful for! What a wonderful way to praise our Father for all He has given! I will supply the turkey, plates, napkins, cups, and plastic-ware. If you are able to help with any of the things below, please let me know. Thanks so much for your help! God bless!

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
Religion-We have been learning about the Israelites crossing the Jordan River, and about Gideon this week.  Again, the Israelites doubted God and His power!  Does this sound familiar?!  We can relate to them so very well, when we doubt God’s will for us.  We are ALL called to belong to Jesus Christ (Romans 1:6)

Next Week’s Memory:
November 13-THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not commit adultery. What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we lead a sexually pure and decent life in what we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other.
November 16-THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not steal.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not take our neighbor’s money or possessions, or get them in any dishonest way, but help him to improve and protect his possessions and income.

Language Arts:   We continued reading about Leigh in the book by Beverly Cleary, Dear Mr. Henshaw.  The students are loving this book!  There has been some laughter and some tears, as we discuss Leigh and his worries and experiences.  We will finish up this book next week.  We will also begin reading the story “On the Wide, Dark Sea” next week.
Spelling Words for next Friday, November 16th:
Plymouth, Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, compact, Mayflower, pumpkin, barter, America, holiday, settlement, *Wampanoag

Math- We are learning how to round to estimate products and how to multiply by 10s, 100s, and 1000s.  Please keep practicing those facts at home!

Social Studies/Math-We began School of Economics studies this week!  We learned about all of the jobs, filled in applications, and had job interviews TODAY!  They will learn about their job on Monday!  So exciting!
Reminders:
-The field trip is November 29th.  The cost for this field trip is $15. Please send this in at any time.  Students will NOT need to pack a lunch, as this fee includes food for them.

*We will also be learning about the first Thanksgiving next week!  We will be studying ALL about the Native Americans and Pilgrims.

SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We painted flags for Veterans Day and then filled them with words we found in magazines that described what a veteran is to each of us.  These are hanging in the gym.  We also helped top create a huge flag with prayers and Bible verses for our veterans.
