4th Grade News

Hi, Parents!  It’s been a fun week!

Important info:
*Midterms came home last Friday.  Please return and sign the bottom portion.  Thank you!
*We celebrated 4 birthdays on Thursday!  Happy Birthday to Zoey, Copper, Caitlyn, and Mrs.  Krekel.  They are ALL such blessings from God to us!

*Timothy Lutheran School’s Christmas musical, A Stranger in the Manger,” is coming up on December 14th at 7:00.  Please have your child here by 6:30 in their classroom.  They are supposed to wear nice church clothes.  Thank you!

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
Religion-We discussed Samson, and the life of Samuel.  Both were called to do important things for God, just as we are!  We are called to be HIS and to share His love and message everywhere we go!
Memory next week:
December 11- THE NINTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house,
or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

December 14- THE TENTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

Language Arts:   We read the story, “Harvesting Hope” this week.  We learned all about Cesar Chavez, and his importance to American history.  This story is such a great recollection of his peaceful protests and marches to make big differences in the lives of the migrant farm workers in California.  Next week, we will read the selection entitled, “Sacajawea,” which will be the nonfiction account of her life.  For DEAR time, we are REALLY enjoying “Indian in the Cupboard, by Lynn Reid Banks.  The kids beg me to “keep reading!”  I love this… :) Please urge them to be reading their historical fiction books at home.

Spelling Words for next Friday, December 14th: (from Sacajawea)
million, collect, lumber, pepper, plastic, borrow, support, thirty, perfect, attend, canyon, traffic, fortune, danger, soccer, engine, picture, survive, seldom, effort, occur, venture, *conundrum

Math- This week, we have learned how to multiply two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers, and are realizing how fun multiplication can be!

Science-This week, we continued to learn about living things, discussing how to classify animals, as well as grouping them in to different genus and species.

SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We worked on your Christmas gifts, and made a beautiful prayer chain to hang in the classroom.  Please come by and check it out!
P.E.- We worked on shooting and passing skills.
