Hello, Parents! I
hope you have had a great week! Our
field trip was a lot of fun today!
Thanks to you that were able to join us as we saw the stage version of
“Mr. Popper’s Penguins!”
Today also marks the end of the 3rd quarter. Can you believe it?! Where has this school year gone? :( Report cards will come home next Friday. Thank you.

Important News:
*Standardized testing is NEXT week, March 18-22! How can
you best prepare them for success?
Standardized testing is very important to us as a school
because the results will let us see if our curriculum and teaching strategies
are as effective as possible. Your
child’s scores are not shared with anyone – they are confidential and given out
just to you. Mr. Holland and the
teachers will analyze the results of all tests to see if we can improve in any
areas. Because of this, we want to help
you and your child prepare for the BEST week of testing possible.
We will conduct our testing in the morning each day. I would like to be done no later than lunch,
just to give the kids a mental break.
Students will have a minimum of 15 minutes break between each
administered section. Our afternoons
will be spent doing academic activities, but nothing that will involve homework
or extra nighttime workload. There will
be a lot of Religion, Science, and Missouri History fun next week! I want the kids to be well-rested!
• The night before:
Go to bed early. A
good night's sleep can be key to a student's success on test day.
•The day of the test:
Have a good breakfast.
Healthy foods like whole-grain cereal or toast, eggs, milk, fruit, and yogurt
will give your student enough energy to get through the test. Avoid sugary,
fatty foods like pastries, as well as heavy breakfasts that may exacerbate
bouts of test-day nausea.
Bring snacks.
Standardized tests last for hours, and by the last section or two, a rumbling
tummy can interfere with a student's concentration, says
bschooladmissionsformula.com. An energy bar and a juice box during a designated
break can provide a boost to get your child through.
Get psyched up.
Standardized tests are not on most students' lists of fun activities, but they
are part of an exciting process… So start the day with a positive attitude. On
the way… listen to upbeat music; or, if your [child] is already a bundle of
nerves, put on some soothing music and encourage your child to lean back, eyes
closed, and take some deep breaths.
Take breaks. I
will let students know when they are allowed to stand up, use the bathroom, and
so forth. But for a quick sanity break, students can take their eyes off the
page, inhale a few deep breaths, and stretch.
Be confident.
Negative thoughts can actually sabotage a student's chances of doing well.
•Other items to note:
The nature of this system of testing is to let the child complete every
question given to them, regardless of the suggested testing time. In real time, one child may complete the test
in 35 minutes while another will take an hour to complete it. Your
child must bring quiet activities to keep them occupied until everyone has
finished that section of the test. Please
let them bring a chapter book, comic book, or a magazine to look at. (This is a GREAT time to read that book
report book!) Technology is NOT allowed as an option.
Some children do well to have something to suck on during
the test, like a mint or lemon lozenges.
I will have some of these on hand, and would welcome donations! Please also make sure your child has a water
bottle.
THANK YOU!
*Track begins on Tuesday, March 19th! For those of you coming out, practice is from
3:45-5:00. Please pack a healthy snack to eat afterschool, and clothes
for all types of weather!
*Next Wednesday, March 20, both of our school ministries,
ECC and TLS, will host the Lenten dinner at RD Mize from 4:45 – 6:15. Here are
two links to sign up to help that evening.

*Spring Musical - kids are working hard preparing for our
performance of “Go, Go Jonah!” For costuming, your child needs to bring in a
plain white t-shirt by next Wednesday, March 20th. We will have a tie-dying party here at school
that week! Ms. MacLean let us know that
Hobby Lobby has nice, preshrunk white t-shirts for $2.79. :)
*Next Friday, March 22, is our annual Trivia Night (this
year has a superhero theme!). Tickets
are on sale now for $20/person or $150 table.
(Don’t have a whole table? No
worries! We can find a table for you and
you can meet some new friends.) Our
7th/8th Grade students often use this night to work the concessions stand and
raise money toward their class trip.
Please come! It is so much fun!
*Thank you all for your help in supporting Community
Linc! As our winners, Timothy girls have chosen to have an all-school
movie/pajama party on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 27th.
If your child chooses, he or she can wear pajamas to school that day and
bring a pillow and/or blanket to get comfy in the gym, as we enjoy watching
Disney’s The Lion King. He or she can also bring a snack to
enjoy. Please don’t forget to wear tennis shoes that day for
recess! Thanks!
Here is what we have been up to:
Religion- We have been learning about Nicodemus and
how Jesus taught him about the power of the Holy Spirit. We learned that the Holy Spirit is a lot like
the wind. We cannot see Him, but He is there,
and His power is amazing! We also
learned about the miracle of Jesus healing the official’s son. Today, we each picked a verse that we could share with
someone who is sick or struggling in some way, and made a card for that person! I am so very PROUD of these kiddos and how
much they love to witness and share God’s love!
There is not any memory for next week.
Language Arts- This week, we read the story, “The
Right Dog for the Job.” This was a very
informative story about service dogs, and led to some great classroom
stories! We practiced with using
quotation marks in the correct places this week. There are not any spelling words or a
reading selection for next week.
Math- We tested over long division this week, and I
am proud to say that everyone was ready!
It is so much fun as an educator to see those “light bulbs” pop on!
Science- This week, we learned more about
animals—their body systems and life cycles.
We will spend a lot more time learning about animals next week. Our afternoons will be filled with fun
Science!
P.E.- We are doing physical fitness testing this week—sit
and reach, shuttle run, crunches, and ½ mile run.
Writing-This week, we interviewed our moms, and have
begun to write a research report about them!
Music-We are working on our songs and lines for our
upcoming musical, “Go, Go, Jonah!”
Art- Come and check out our Roy G. Biv's in the hallway, as well as our February Mystery Book Report movie posters...
