POLAR EXPRESS PARTY - December 20
Nest week, 3rd/4th graders will be
reading books by Chris VanAllsburg, ending with “The Polar Express.” On the 20th, the kiddos can wear their
pajamas to school, (please wear or send tennis shoes too!) and we will watch
the movie with some hot cocoa and candy canes!
Blankets and pillows are welcome for this fun morning. We dismiss at 1:00 for Christmas break that
day!
DR. DAWN CALLAHAN DENNIS will be visiting our classrooms
within the next couple of weeks. This is
a continuation of our Professional Development that our staff here at Timothy
has been participating in the last few years. I attached the informational letter from Mr. Holland to our newsletter. Thank you!
Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- This week, we have been talking about being
citizens in the Kingdom of God here on earth.
We divided up into three groups, with each group researching the Bible
to find information about our rights and privileges, the promises God gives us,
and what our expectations are. We
created posters and documents to share with the class!
Memory next
week:
12/17- betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but
defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.
12/20- THE NINTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not
scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house, or get it in a way which only
appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.
Language Arts- This week, third graders read a short
biography about Michael Jordan, entitled, “Jump!” Fourth graders read a story called, “Dear Mr.
Winston,” where a girls sends the local
librarian an “apology,” which truly was not much of one! This led to a fun and informative class
discussion about how to apologize with meaning.
We reviewed how to write friendly letters this week, and wrote some
friendly letters to people we know! We will not have spelling words next week. Today we also finished reading "Indian in the Cupboard," and began watching the movie!
Math- Third graders are working on division, and will
test over this chapter early next week.
Fourth graders learned how to multiply with zeroes, and to also multiply
2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. They
are realizing why it is helpful to have those facts memorized!
Science-We worked on our plant and animal cell
posters, and shared them on Thursday. We
began learning about classifying living things within the 6 Kingdoms.
Art: We completed our cat contours and began making
props for when we visit Benton House next week.
We also have been making Christmas cards!
Writing: This week, we wrote friendly letters.
P.E.: Basketball Skills: dribbling with both hands and passing.
Music: We had
two long music practices this week to prepare for our program.
