Happy Weekend! :)

Hello!  It has been a fun, busy week!

*Midterm is today!  Can you believe it is the middle of the quarter already?!  Midterm reports will come home next Wednesday.  Please have your kiddos redo work that is a “C” or below for half credit and return those papers by Monday!  Thank you!

*Just a reminder:  THE WALK-A-THON IS NEXT FRIDAY!  Timothy’s 4th annual Walk-a-Thon is Friday, September 25th.  This year looks a little bit different, but our goals are the same—to help our school grow and prosper!  This year, our goals are to purchase items that will help our school environment.  These items include SmartBoards and projectors for four classrooms, and a canopy and fence for the school-age playground, which will be coming in early October!  All of these items together will be about $24, 600.  Pledge forms came home last week.  Pledges can even made online!

Parents are also needed to assist during the Walk-a-Thon.  We are going to spread the Walk-A-Thon out through the entire day, as to socially distance each class.  The routes will be shorter, as there will be two classes walking on two different parts of the parking lot at the same time.  We will need just two parents per class to stand along the route or to count laps.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Language Arts- Both groups had some fun reading stories this week!  Third graders read a story based on the true events of the building of the Golden Gate Bridge, entitled, “Pop’s Bridge.”  Fourth graders read a play entitled, “The Power of W.O.W,” which was about a group of kids that came together to save their beloved bookmobile.  We learned the cursive letters “b” and “f,” and practiced writing words in cursive. Today, we wrote in our journals and shared:  "If you could trade places with one person for a day, who would it be and why?"

 Math-

3rd- We have been working on the addition properties and finding addition patterns.  Next week, we will begin to solve longer addition problems.

4th- We have been reviewing addition and subtraction properties and then finding patterns in problems.  Today we worked with adding and subtracting mentally.

Social Studies- We read a Scholastic News that covered both of the presidential candidates and explained the voting process.  We also had a friendly debate about underwater treasures!  In our book, we discussed the continents and found different points on maps.

We wrote letters and made cards for police officers, thanking them for their hard work and helping to keep us safe.  If you have the name and address of an officer you would like for us to send one to, please email me!  Thank you!

SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- This week, we discussed horizon lines and looked at pictures of fall landscapes.  We discussed how faraway images are smaller in pictures, and how to depict that in our art work.  We drew these first, then colored them, and painted over the crayon with watercolors for a wax-resist look.  They are beautiful!

Writing- We wrote Bio-Poems this week, and will publish these next week!  These are poems all about ourselves.

Computer Lab- We played on Spelling City again in the lab this week.  Please check out this website to help your child study at home!  https://www.spellingcity.com/users/KimBrunkhorst

P.E.-This week we worked on volleyball skills--passing, setting, serving, rotation, and game play.

Music- Grades 2nd-8th were recorded singing their music song this week!  You can see the video on Facebook or at church on Sunday morning.  :) If you would like to attend worship, services are at 9:00 (425 NW R.D. Mize Rd, Blue Springs) and 10:00 (at school). Or you can tune into Facebook Live at 10:00 Sunday morning.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,

Kim
