Goodness...time is flying!

Hi!  It has been another fun, busy week!  Can you believe that first quarter is completed?!  Goodness...time is flying!

***Important Notice***

Beginning Monday, because of the playground construction that will be happening near the West parking lot, pick-up will be different in the afternoons for about two weeks.  We will continue to dismiss out of the same doors, but we will head across the grassy area to the south lot.  Please come in through the south entrance to the school.  You can drive past where the PK-2nd graders are dismissing (not going under the canopy), but meet us by the handicapped parking spots and we will load kiddos into the cars there.  Thank you for understanding!

Our Walk-A-Thon was a HUGE success!  THANK YOU to all of our walkers, volunteers, and generous donators!  Students and teachers walked a whopping 1, 896 laps, and raised $9, 236 to help our school grow!  We will be using these funds to purchase Smart Boards and projectors for our classrooms, as well as many other school needs. We are SO thankful to God for these provisions and blessings!  Praise HIM!

 Some reminders:

*The end of the quarter is today!  I will be working on grades and grade cards today and this weekend, but if your child would like to redo some assignments (grades C or below), he or she can turn them in on Monday for half credit.  This is regular assignments/homework only.  Thanks!  Grade cards will come home at conferences.

*We do not have school next Thursday and Friday, October 22nd and 23rd.  Teachers will be learning on those days!  ;)

*First quarter conferences are coming up on October 29th and October 30th!  Conferences will either be a Zoom conference or an in-person conference.  Please choose what is best for your family.  Here is the sign-up:

*We get out of school at 1:00 on both of those days (October 29th and 30th.)  There will not be Special classes on the 29th, so homeschool kiddos will not be coming.   However, we will have our Fall Party on the 30th, and I would love it if Addie and Mackenzie could come!  Our party will be from 10:30 until about lunch time, but they are welcome to come and stay through lunch and the 1:00 dismissal.  For the party, I have planned some fun outdoor and indoor activities.  I will just need some students to bring in treats!  If you are able to help, please sign-up!  Thank you!

*Please make sure you kiddo brings a water bottle to school each day.  We have been having quite a few visit the office to get water, and it takes time out of class.  Thanks for understanding.  We also have been taking time to enjoy a healthy snack after morning recess, so if you are so inclined, please send one in each day for your child.  Thanks!

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:

Religion- This week, we had the most interesting time digging into God’s Word to learn about angels, about heaven, and Satan, and about hell.  We learned the story of the first sin, and how Eve and Adam fell into temptation.  We also learned about that first promise of a Savior, so that we too, one day can be with HIM forever!  Next week, we will be learning more about Martin Luther and his life, as he served the Lord.

Memory for next week:  (only Tuesday!)

10/20-and I pray You to protect me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and; life may please You.

Language Arts- 3rd graders read the story, “Harvest Birds,” which was a neat tale about a man who followed his own heart and did not listen to the judgements of others.  It was a great story of kindness and dedication.  Fourth graders read a story about ecology.  We had so many great discussions about their story, “Ecology for Kids.”  We will not have a Spelling Test next week, but will introduce an all-class spelling list and story on Monday, as we delve into the life of Martin Luther.  We will test over both of these on Friday, October 30th

Spelling Words for Friday, October 30th:

Martin Luther, afraid, church, knight, monk, trust, choir, shield, scare, forgiveness, *Reformation

Math-3rd grade has been working on longer subtraction and figuring out when to estimate and when to use an exact answer for real-world problems.  Fourth grade tested over Chapter 2 today, which focused on estimating, multi-step problems, and long addition and subtraction.

Social Studies- We had our first test today!  I have a lot of confident kiddos in here!  Thanks for helping them study at home.  Tests will come back home next week.  We had a ton of fun having the fun rivalry of Social Studies Jeopardy!  We begin Science nest week!

 SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- We finished up zentangle pumpkins.  They will be filling the hallway soon!

Writers’ Workshop/Computer Lab-We are continuing publishing our Bio-Poems and personal narratives.  On Thursday, we had Readers’ Theatre and were able to share some of these masterpieces we have been working on!

Music- We have been practicing our patriotic songs, and practicing for the upcoming virtual Veteran’s Day Program.   The kiddos also serenaded me on Thursday with “Amazing Grace.”  I went to pick them up from Music Class, and Ms. MacLean was ready with her guitar.  They sang the whole song, by heart, for my ears and our Heavenly Father’s. (Yay, for Memory Work!)   I truly could feel God smiling down on us!  These kiddos are so special to my heart!

P.E. – This week, we played some Sr. Dodgeball.  It is a class favorite!  ;)

May God bless your weekend,

Kim

We celebrated two birthdays this week!
