Happy Reformation!

Hi!  It was a great week!  Goodness…we have been so busy in here!  It was wonderful to visit with you this week.  I miss the connections we “normally” have during the school year, so these conferences were and are so important to me!

During conferences, I was asked by several parents if I could share emails of fellow parents in 3rd/4th grade with the whole group so that more connections could be made.  Please let me know if you are opposed to that, and I won’t include your email.  It has been tough this year to get to know one another and have that “family” that we usually do, with all of the Covid rules.  So, this may be one step to get to know each other better!  Thank you.  I am so thankful for each of you!

Today was our Fall Party, and we had TONS of fun!  We pinned the nose on the pumpkin, played musical chairs, played a fun “Would You Rather?” and ate some yummy snacks.  THANK YOU for those yummy snacks!  We all appreciated them!

Each year, our 4th graders receive personal dictionaries from Blue Springs Optimist Club.  Usually, our friend, Myrna, brings them in and we pray with her. This year, she could not come in, but we still received our dictionaries, read the Optimist Creed, and prayed for her!  We are so thankful!

4th graders shared book reports too.  :)

Last week, I attended several virtual conferences and then we also had an in-service with the amazing Dawn Marie.  :)  In both my online courses and the in-service, we talked a lot about stress and stress-management.  This week, I introduced some new concepts to the kiddos about identifying things that make them stressed and how to have some self-control in these situations.  Next week, I will be meeting with them one-on-one to discuss strategies that we can use at school.  All of this was very helpful for me too!

Other information:

*We will be recording our poems and songs for the Veteran’s Day program on Thursday morning.  Please have your student wear their red “Sent to Serve” shirt to school that day.  This recording will be available on Veterans Day at 9:00 for you to observe and share.  It will be on Facebook and our church and school websites.  We are excited!

*We lead Chapel this next Wednesday.  I will have a colleague take pictures to share with you!

*Some students are still missing some school supplies like scissors and colored pencils.  We really are not supposed to be sharing supplies this year.  Please ask your kiddo if they are missing any of these items, and if possible, please send in some from home for him or her to use.  Please let me know if this is a hardship for you, and I would be very happy to help!  God bless!

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:

Religion- This week, we discussed how we offer back to God what He has given us.  We discussed ways we can imitate God through our thoughts, words, and actions, and came up with SO many great ideas!  I love that we all share the same faith.  It makes my every day so wonderful.

Religion/Reading/History-This week, in a fun culmination unit, we learned all about the life of Martin Luther.  We read several books about him in class and did quite a few projects that will be coming home soon for you to enjoy too!  We are so thankful that God helped Martin stand up for what he believed!  He could not RECANT!

Here is the song that the kiddos LOVED!  It really has helped us memorize those facts!

 Memory for next week:

11/3- THE FIRST COMMANDMENT- You shall have no other gods.

What does this mean?  We should fear, love, and trust in God above all things.

11/6- THE SECOND COMMANDMENT-You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

Spelling Words for Friday, November 6th:

3rd grade- (from “Kamishibai Man”) clown, round, bow, cloud, power, crown, thousand, crowd, sound, count, powder, blouse, frown, pound, mountain, coward, *garrulous

4th grade-(from “Dear Mr. Winston”) spark, prepare, cheer, tear, scarf, scare, repair, earring, scarce, weird, sharp, rear, spare, gear, hairy, compare, alarm, harsh, upstairs, square, weary, startle, *garrulous

Math-Third graders have been working with regrouping and subtracting across three and four digit numbers, as well as across zeroes.  Fourth graders have been working on solving multi-step word problems and have begun multiplication and division problems using variables.  We all have been working hard on our mad minutes!  Please continue to work on math facts at home—addition and multiplication flash cards are best!  Thanks!

 SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- We have been learning about Creation, so we made Creation flip books.  We will continue to work on these next week.  Our beautiful art is hanging in the hallway.

Music- We have been practicing our patriotic songs, and practicing for the upcoming virtual Veteran’s Day Program.

P.E. – This week, we played 4-Quadrant Dodgeball.

May God bless your weekend!

Happy Reformation! Happy Halloween!
