Hello, Weekend!

Hi, 3rd and 4th grade parents!  We have had a great week.  :)

 Important information:

*If you’re looking for some Christmas cheer, Lutheran High is having a concert here this Sunday at 7:00.  Everyone is welcome.

*We are recording our Christmas Program songs next Thursday, December 10th, at 9:00.  Ms. MacLean has just asked that the kids wear their “Christmas best.”  :)  If you would like to send a change of clothes, that would work too!  Homeschool friends are invited to spend the whole day with us.  Thank you!

*Our Christmas Program is December 16th at 5:30 in the school auditorium.  It is during Timothy’s Advent Service.  Only the 5th-8th grade will be presenting live.  PK-4th grade will be pre-recording their songs, etc.  Thank you for your support and understanding.

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:

Religion- We have been talking about the sovereignty of God.  We have talked about how He listens to and answers our prayers, as well as the different types of prayer.  We have discussed the commandments.  The 6th commandment is a tough one, (and is memory next week), so I want you to know that the way I explain this one: Husband and wife should love and honor one another.  We talk about how as children, they can also break this commandment by not being respectful to the opposite gender, and by partaking in conversations that are not God-pleasing.  I, of course, do not go into much detail at this level, but sometimes it does lead to questions that you may receive at home—so just a heads up!  Thanks!

 Memory for next week:

12/8-THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT: You shall not commit adultery. What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we lead a sexually pure and decent life in what we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other.

12/11-THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT: You shall not steal.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not take our neighbor’s money or possessions, or get them in any dishonest way, but help him to improve and protect his possessions and income.

Language Arts-This week, we have read the a story that taught us about the childhood and life of Michael Jordan in a story entitled, “Jump!” and about the true life of a family that adopted a little screech owl in the story “The Screech Owl that Liked Television.”  These were great reading selections!  The kiddos know that they are supposed to bring their reading books home at least once a week to read their reading selection aloud.  This usually takes place on Wednesday or Thursday nights, after we have read the whole selection as a class.  Be on the lookout for these!  Thank you!  We have been discussing singular and plural as well as capitalizing proper nouns. We learned cursive m and n.  Fourth graders shared their fantasy book reports this week too!

Spelling Words for next week, December 11th:
