Day 5--Travel Day/Tourist Dress Theme: “Sent to Serve in the World"

Happy National Lutheran Schools’ Week!  Wow, has it been a week!  It was nice to get a Snow Day, and get caught up on things, too.  :)  Our themed days and projects were so much fun!  We are SO very blessed to have this school, and I am SO very blessed to serve here.  God is good all the time and all the time God is good!

*We just had the AMAZING news that Danilyn has a new baby brother!  Baby Ford is here! 8lb 21 inches long!  Congratulations!  We are saying many prayers for all of you!

*Today was the final day of Lutheran Schools Week!  It was our Travel Day/Tourist Dress Theme: “Sent to Serve in the World.”  We looked pretty amazing!  We also had the Talent Show this afternoon at 1:00.  I was bummed because I was unable to get any pictures of our class performing, as I was emceeing, but it was recorded and it will be up on our website soon to view!

*We have one week left for our 3rd quarter mission project with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  We are collecting change in our classrooms.  As of today, our classroom has raised $56.10 in the classroom.  Nice work!  We have not raised any money online yet.  Here is the link to our class page if you’d rather go that route: https://events.lls.org/pages/mid/Timothy-Lutheran-School-2021/brunkhorstThe fundraiser will run until Friday, February 5.  Classes are competing for a pizza party! Any questions?  Contact Mrs. Otte or look up the website:  www.HeroSquad.org

 * The online Book Fair is going on right now!  It will continue until February 4th.  You can access the book fair at scholastic.com/bf/tlsrams. Please share this link with your friends and family! Purchases from our book fair directly benefit our school!

*3rd quarter conferences are right around the corner!  (February 11th and 12th).  These conferences will be student-led.  We dismiss at 1:00 both days.  If you need another afternoon or evening, please let me know!  Here is the sign up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4dadab2da7f58-1stquarter

Please also email me if there are any specific issues you want to be sure we discuss in our time together.

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:

Religion- This week we focused on serving others, as we wrote letters and cards to volunteers and our pastors and teachers.  We heard the examples of Jesus washing His disciples feet and Jesus being the Good Shepherd.

 Memory for next week:

2/2-and I pray You to forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night.

2/5- For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Language Arts- This week, we read the story of “Riding the Train,” from The Shores of Silver Lake by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  She is our Author of the Month too, so this story was fun!  4th graders shared their historical fiction book reports and we reviewed the lowercase cursive alphabet.

Spelling words for next Friday, February 5th (both 3rd/4th grades)--from the story, "The Stranger.":

railroad, airport, seat belt, everywhere, homesick, understand, background, anything, ninety-nine, already, fireplace, ourselves, all right, forever, breakfast, whenever, everything, meanwhile, afternoon, make-believe, *mercury

Math- 3rd graders have been working with multiplying and dividing by 10.  They will finish up Chapter 6  next week and test over it.  4th graders are working with multiplying double digit numbers with zeroes and rounding to multiply.  They have also had some pretty tough words problems this week.  They tested over Chapter 5 today.

 SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- We wrote letters, and made cards.  We also worked with Mrs. Gorrow in creating a HUGE Jenga game for the auction!

Computer- We worked on publishing our stories and papers. Some of the kids have asked if they can work on the publishing of these at home on Google Docs and this is fine with me!  The keyboarding process is slow for some, as they are just learning, so the extra practice would be great!  They know our class’ username and password and can log in at home.

Writing- We wrote friendly letters and shared them with teachers.

Music-  We recorded our sing for NLSW.

P.E. – We finished up our Jump Roping unit this week!

 May God bless weekend,

Kim
