Dear 4th Grade Parents,
*4th graders hosted Chapel this week, and they all did a
fantastic job! We loved being able to share the Good News of
Jesus with all of TLS!
Thanks so much for your help! God bless!
Religion- We have learned all about the Israelites crossing the Jordan River and Gideon working to protect the people of Israel. This led to some great discussions about how God still protects us and guides us in His ways through other people and the use of His Holy Word. Today, we discussed hearing God’s Call. This led to some beautiful stories! I shared how I heard/felt God calling me to serve in a Lutheran church. He spoke to me thought some amazing people, as well as the circumstances that surrounded everything. :) This led to our grandchildren of pastors in the classroom sharing their stories as well. What a wonderful testament to our faith!
Memory for Next Week:
11/9- THE SECOND COMMANDMENT-You shall not misuse the name
of the Lord your God.
11/12-What does this mean? We should fear and love God so we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name…
Language Arts- This week, we read the biography of
Jose Limon, a famous dancer, in a story called Jose! Born to Dance! We discussed the obstacles, hard work, and
perseverance he overcame and showed to find his true passion. It was a beautifully written story that had a
lot of similes, metaphors, and reflective moments. We learned a lot new vocabulary, and some
Spanish words!
Math- We have begun two-digit multiplication with regrouping and these 4th graders are ROCKing it! I am SO proud of them and how excited they are to be completing higher level math! Woohoo! We are also on 8’s in mad minutes, and I am just so proud of the progress we have made so quickly this year! Next week, we will focus on multiplying multi-digit numbers and word problems.
Science- We cracked our Science books this week, and have begun learning all about cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems—TONS of new vocabulary! We began work on our HUGE poster of cells, by dividing into groups and reviewing the parts of animal cells and plant cells. Next week, we will get out our hand lenses and study the cells of plants!
Social Studies- This week in Scholastic News, we
discussed Native Americans, the Trail of Tears, and some of the issues with native
names within our athletic teams. We had
a great discussion and debate in here. I
loved hearing all of the opinions and though-out ideas!
SPECIAL CLASSES
Art-We made contour drawings of cats, and then added
a colorful setting and painted them.
They are gorgeous! This was fun,
as we looked at a lot of cute photos of cats.
:)
Music- Music was ALL about the Veteran’s Day program this week, as we practiced songs with chimes and the 3rd graders.
Computer Lab- We worked at typing sentences onto
Google Docs. We are becoming so talented
with our typing skills.
P.E.- We played parachute games this week! (i.e. Sit-ups, Washing Machine, and Mushroom)
Writing- We discussed “shades of meanings” of words
(finding synonyms) by using dictionaries, thesauruses, and our noggins. ;) We created little synonym books to aide us
in our writing. These will help us be more
descriptive!
