May God Bless You!

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

Hello!  I hope this note finds you well!  Thank you for being supportive, amazing parents.  I feel blessed that you are part of our Timothy family.  PLEASE remember: You are treasured!

 Important things to note:

*4th graders hosted Chapel this week, and they all did a fantastic job!  We loved being able to share the Good News of Jesus with all of TLS!

Pastor Ryan shared a real mite with us!

*Next week, on Thursday, November 11th, we will have a Veteran’s Day celebration that will be open to the public. We invite all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and anyone to join us!   If you have a veteran or active service member in your family, we encourage you to submit their picture, dates served, and branch, to Mrs. Romo as part of our program. Her email is kathyr@timothylutheran.com. Thank you!  (We will need all of the information submitted by Monday, November 8, at 3:30 pm.)  The students have been practicing like crazy for this important day!  They sound beautiful and are doing so well!  Please have your child come to school in either a Timothy Rams shirt or red, white, and blue that day.

*This week, your child brought home a shoe box for contributions to our second quarter mission project, Operation Christmas Child.  The note inside your box has some helpful information.  We will be accepting your filled boxes through Friday, November 19.  Thank you for taking part in this opportunity to touch lives for Christ around the world, and to teach your child the joy of giving and the True Meaning of Christmas!  If you have questions, please direct them to laurav@timothylutheran.com

*If you would like to place a Scrip order, we will be placing one sometime early next week. Scrip is where you purchase a gift card from a retailer at face value and the school earns a percentage of the proceeds. If you would like to see who the participating retailers are, here is a list: https://www.shopwithscrip.com/brands. It is never too early to start thinking Christmas!

*On Friday, November 19th, the 4th graders will have their classroom Thanksgiving Feast in lieu of lunch. We will be studying the first Thanksgiving all that week, and all about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Indians. We will also be talking about all the things we, as Christian Americans, should be thankful for! What a wonderful way to praise our Father for all He has given! I will supply the turkey, plates, napkins, cups, and plastic-ware. If you are able to help with any of the things below, please let me know. Here is the link:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4dadab2da7f58-thanksgiving

Thanks so much for your help! God bless!

*Remember – NO SCHOOL the week of Thanksgiving, November 22 - 26. The teachers have a conference out of town the first 2 days of the week. The rest of the week is Thanksgiving break. There will be NO CHILDCARE.

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Religion- We have learned all about the Israelites crossing the Jordan River and Gideon working to protect the people of Israel.  This led to some great discussions about how God still protects us and guides us in His ways through other people and the use of His Holy Word.  Today, we discussed hearing God’s Call.  This led to some beautiful stories!  I shared how I heard/felt God calling me to serve in a Lutheran church.  He spoke to me thought some amazing people, as well as the circumstances that surrounded everything.  :)  This led to our grandchildren of pastors in the classroom sharing their stories as well.  What a wonderful testament to our faith!

Memory for Next Week:

11/9- THE SECOND COMMANDMENT-You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

11/12-What does this mean? We should fear and love God so we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name…

Language Arts- This week, we read the biography of Jose Limon, a famous dancer, in a story called Jose!  Born to Dance!  We discussed the obstacles, hard work, and perseverance he overcame and showed to find his true passion.  It was a beautifully written story that had a lot of similes, metaphors, and reflective moments.  We learned a lot new vocabulary, and some Spanish words!

Spelling Words for Friday, November 12th: (from Molly’s Pilgrim)  admired, ignorant, pilgrim, model, naturally, taunted, modern, tenement, giggle, clothespin, *synagogue

Math- We have begun two-digit multiplication with regrouping and these 4th graders are ROCKing it! I am SO proud of them and how excited they are to be completing higher level math!  Woohoo!  We are also on 8’s in mad minutes, and I am just so proud of the progress we have made so quickly this year!  Next week, we will focus on multiplying multi-digit numbers and word problems.

Science- We cracked our Science books this week, and have begun learning all about cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems—TONS of new vocabulary!  We began work on our HUGE poster of cells, by dividing into groups and reviewing the parts of animal cells and plant cells.  Next week, we will get out our hand lenses and study the cells of plants!

Social Studies- This week in Scholastic News, we discussed Native Americans, the Trail of Tears, and some of the issues with native names within our athletic teams.  We had a great discussion and debate in here.  I loved hearing all of the opinions and though-out ideas!

SPECIAL CLASSES

Art-We made contour drawings of cats, and then added a colorful setting and painted them.  They are gorgeous!  This was fun, as we looked at a lot of cute photos of cats.  :)

(What is HE doing here?!  Our inspiration!)

Music- Music was ALL about the Veteran’s Day program this week, as we practiced songs with chimes and the 3rd graders.

Computer Lab- We worked at typing sentences onto Google Docs.  We are becoming so talented with our typing skills.

P.E.- We played parachute games this week!  (i.e. Sit-ups, Washing Machine, and Mushroom)

Writing- We discussed “shades of meanings” of words (finding synonyms) by using dictionaries, thesauruses, and our noggins.  ;) We created little synonym books to aide us in our writing.  These will help us be more descriptive!
