It feels like CHRISTmastime!

 Hello, wonderful parents!

Our TLS CHRISTMAS PROGRAM/ADVENT SERVICE-“Unto Us” was Wednesday night and it was so beautiful!  I am so proud of our kiddos, and how they witnessed to everyone about the birth of Christ!  A special thank you to Miss Rathke and all of her hard work!  She is such a blessing!

ALL SCHOOL BOWLING & CAROLING PARTY - December 20th

We are SO excited for this!  The whole school will head to Lunar Bowl in the morning.  (Bowling is $4.00 per student and $8.00 per adult.)  We will return to school for lunch.  At 1:30, 3rd and 4th grades will then head to Benton House (1701 NW Jefferson Street) to sing carols to the nursing home residents.  This is such a wonderful way to share God’s love with our neighbors! Permission slips came home on Tuesday.  Please sign and return these by Wednesday, December 15th.  Thank you!

4th GRADE POLAR EXPRESS PARTY - December 21st

We will be reading books by Chris VanAllsburg, ending with “The Polar Express.”  On the 21st, the kiddos can wear their pajamas to school, (please wear or send tennis shoes too!) and we will watch the movie in the afternoon with some hot cocoa and candy canes!  Blankets and pillows are welcome for this fun day.  We dismiss at 3:30 that day.

TALENT SHOW-On Friday, January 28th, which is also Grandparents’ Day, we will have our Talent Show.  Each class will be attending, and children can sit with their grandparents.  If your child is interested in performing in the Talent Show, tryouts are Wednesday, January 12th, after school, in the music room.  Permission slips came home on Wednesday!  Please be on the lookout for these!  Questions?  Please email me!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

Religion- This week, we worked on poster and documents, and shared them with our small groups to the entire class.  We worked on our speaking and presenting skills.  The groups presented on these topics, with Bible references:

  1. Jesus is Our King
  2. Responsibilities of Citizens of the Kingdom of God
  3. Rights and Privileges of Citizens of the Kingdom of God

There will not be Memory next week.

Language Arts-

For our reading stories this week, each student chose a grade-level Christmas story to read.  They chose vocabulary from this story to be their spelling words for the week.  They then looked up these words and shared their meanings with the class.  We had some fun dissecting these stories!  There will not be spelling words next week.

Math-This week, we practice long division with remainders!  This is the first group that I have had in LONG time that was SO very excited to learn this skill.  It made my heart sing to hear so many, “Math is SO fun!”  They are doing a great job!  We will review this skill after break.

SPECIAL CLASSES

Art- We finished up our oil pastel snow pictures.  They are hanging in the hallway outside of our classroom. Beautiful!  We also worked on cards for the nursing home next week.  Then, we made your Christmas gifts!  ;)

P.E.- We continued with basketball skills and I taught them how to play HORSE, the RAMS version! ;)

Music- We did a TON of practicing for our Christmas/Advent service!  We also have prepared for when we sing at Benton House next week!

Have a blessed weekend!

Kim
