We are SO excited for this!
The whole school will head to Lunar Bowl in the morning. (Bowling is $4.00 per student and $8.00 per
adult.) We will return to school for
lunch. At 1:30, 3rd and 4th
grades will then head to Benton House (1701 NW Jefferson Street) to sing carols
to the nursing home residents. This is
such a wonderful way to share God’s love with our neighbors! Permission slips
came home on Tuesday. Please sign and
return these by Wednesday, December 15th. Thank you!
We will be reading books by Chris VanAllsburg, ending with
“The Polar Express.” On the 21st, the
kiddos can wear their pajamas to school, (please wear or send tennis shoes
too!) and we will watch the movie in the afternoon with some hot cocoa and
candy canes! Blankets and pillows are
welcome for this fun day. I made the
mistake of saying that we dismiss early, but we do not! I am sorry!
It will be a regular dismissal at 3:30!

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion-
We discussed the lives of David, Saul, and Jonathan. We had some mature conversations about
jealousy and the sins that occur when we allow jealousy to take over our
hearts. We were all reminded of God’s
forgiveness and grace in these circumstances.
We have worked on our posters that proclaim that Jesus is King, the Responsibilities
of Citizens of the Kingdom of God, and the Rights and Privileges of Citizens of
the Kingdom of God. We are excited to
showcase these!
12/14-THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT
You shall not steal. What does this mean? We should fear and
love God so that we do not take our neighbor’s money or possessions, or get
them in any dishonest way, but help him to improve and protect his possessions
and income.
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies
about our neighbor,
Language Arts-
We read the story, The Earth Dragon Awakens, which is
a historical fiction account of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. It led to a great discussion of fear and
bravery. In Language Arts, we also
discussed sequencing, synonyms, and how to analyze the main character of our
story. For our reading stories next
week, each student will be choosing a grade level Christmas story to read. He or she will be choosing vocabulary from
this story to be their spelling words for the week. These words will come home on Monday and will
be different than their classmates. We
will do some partner testing next week!
Math- We tested over Chapter 5—long multiplication and have begun our unit on division! Our facts are almost memorized! We are working on 12s right now, and are getting those down! I am proud of these kiddos and all of their hard work!
Science- We discussed classifying living things. We talked about the five different kingdoms and how living things fit into these. Then we narrowed living things down to Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. We discussed organisms with only one cell, and how organisms are named. We also shared our cell posters! Our noggins are growing! ;)
Social Studies- In Scholastic News this week we discussed how there is a group of scientists who want to bring back the wooly mammoth, and we debated this. We also learned about 3D printers and they ways they are being used to improve our world. It was quite interesting!
SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We studied scenes of snow falling. (Wishful thinking?!) Then, using oil pastels,
drew pictures of what we love to do in the snow. After this, we created a crayon resist with
white paint to make our pictures look like it was a snowy, hazy day! We will finish these up next week. :)
Computer Lab- We composed friendly letters to Santa, or our elf, or our teacher, or to YOU, about our Christmas wishes! Be on the lookout for these!
P.E.- We learned how to shoot layup’s and play Knockout!
Writing- This week, we continued learning how to use descriptive writing, focusing on ways to end a narrative. We began our drafting and excited to share them!
Music- We practiced A TON for our Christmas service on December 15th! Please use these links to practice at home too. THANK YOU for your help!
