*For those of you who missed picture day, RE-TAKE DAY is Friday morning, October 21st!
Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION- This week, we discussed the lives of Jacob,
Joseph, and Job. The lessons focused on
having a “hard knock life,” yet leaning on God to get through… That despite the
circumstances, these men leaned on God, and in turn are examples for us to
follow. We had some beautiful , yet
mature, discussions about hardships, and
how to face them. We even watch the clip
from the old Orphan Annie movie, and listened to the song “It’s A Hard Knock
Life.” (Then it proceeded to play in our
heads ALL DAY.) ;) The bottom line: God LOVES us and is ALWAYS with us. On another note, I was SO proud of our class
and how well they recited the books of the Old Testament.
MEMORY for Next Week:
Tuesday, 10/4-
Galatians
Ephesians
Philippians
Colossians
1 & 2 Thessalonians
1 & 2 Timothy
Titus
Philemon
LANGUAGE ARTS- We read a new genre of story this week: a fractured fairytale! It is titled, “Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude.” It was one of those stories that was a blast to read, and really just gets kids on fire for reading! They loved it! I also found two other stories written by Kevin O’Malley that I shared with the class today! We had some fun. We learned how to compare and contrast using Venn diagrams and how to make predictions. We reviewed hyperboles. We also discussed different types of verbs—action, helping, and linking. We reviewed cursive letters m, n, x, q, y, and g. We shared some of our 4th grade Newbery book reports this week, and will finish up next week. Next week, we will get details about our next book report, where the main character is an animal. We will not have SPELLING WORDS next week. It is only a two-day week! ;)
MATH- We learned how to solve multi-step word problems and discussed real world scenarios for these. We reviewed regrouping—adding while carrying, and borrowing with subtractions. Those zeroes were giving us some trouble, but we’ve got it now! We will review Chapter 2 Monday and will test on Tuesday.
SOCIAL STUDIES-This week we dove into the Northeast states a discussed their climate, history, and population. We will focus on the Southeast and Midwest states next week. We also learned about Missouri’s state tree, state flower, and state animal. Please quiz your kiddo!
SPECIAL CLASSES
ART-This week, we finished up our line drawings. Be on the lookout for these crazy animals
coming to the hallway soon!
MUSIC- Students practiced the song, “We Are the Church,” and
songs for the upcoming Veteran’s Day Program.
COMPUTER LAB- We worked on typing.com and published on
Google Docs.
P.E.- We finished up our volleyball unit with a fun game of
Battleship!
