Happy Weekend!

Hi, Parents!  It was SO GOOD to see your kiddos again!  I missed them!  We have been struggling to stay well in here, so make sure y’all are getting plenty of rest!  I sure miss them when they are gone!

There are A LOT of fun things coming up!  Please see below:

*CHRISTMAS GIFTS- This is coming up next week! As a tradition, the 4th grade class does not buy gifts for one another.  Instead, we try to purchase gifts for some children who many not be getting any other gifts this Christmas.  My students love this, and it is so fun picking out presents, and sharing God’s love with other people, as He has taught us to do!  This year, I have chosen three kiddos from our “Angel Trees” at church.  The gifts have to be ready to go by December 11th, which really does not give us much time!  If your child or you would like to contribute money, I will take the kids “shopping” on Amazon or Walmart.com on Monday, and we will pick out some gifts together.  :)  If you are able, please send in money by Friday.  I will plan on spending about $100 total.  THANK YOU!  Our gifts will be for a 7-12 year old boy, an infant boy, and a young child who wants a Spy Ninja Comic Book!  ;)

*UPDATES ON CHURCH AND CHILDRENS’ MINISTRY: (For those of you that worship and attend youth events at Timothy Lutheran Church)

There is an Advent Worship service at 5:30pm on December 7th at RD Mize.   The last Advent worship is also the Timothy Lutheran School program on December 14th at 6:30pm at the Wyatt Campus.  Crosswalk/FaithRoots kiddos will be singing in worship on Sunday, December 11th, at 10am at the Wyatt Worship Service.  There will be NO Crosswalk /Confirmation / Sr. High Revolution on December 14th, 21st, or 28th.  The All-Youth Ministry restarts January 4th. Please contact Pastor Ryan with questions!345

*TLS CHRISTMAS/ADVENT SERVICE- Do You Know Him? - December 14th at 6:30 pm.  Please invite your family and friends!  All are welcome!  4th graders should wear black and should be in their classrooms by 6:10.  Please let me know if your child cannot be there, as some will have parts that evening.  (Those that have parts will be wearing costumes that we have here at school.  These will be assigned next week.) Thank you!

*FIELD TRIP NOTICE-ALL 4th GRADE STUDENTS--On Friday, December 16th, we will be headed to see “The Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever” at the Theatre for Young America at Union Station in Kansas City.  All tickets are $5.50.  I have reserved 28 tickets.  I have paid for this in full, so when you can, please send in money or checks to me.  I have the link for the sign-up.  Please check if your student is coming, and if you are able to come and drive.  Thank you!

*POLAR EXPRESS PARTY-ALL 4th GRADE STUDENTS INVITED-DECEMBER 19th!  We will be reading books by Chris VanAllsburg, ending with “The Polar Express.”  On the 19th, the kiddos can wear their pajamas to school, (please wear or send tennis shoes too!) and we will watch the movie in the afternoon with some hot cocoa and candy canes!  Blankets and pillows are welcome for this fun day.  For homeschool friends, that are joining us, we will watch the movie after lunch, around 12:30

 *ALL-SCHOOL BOWLING AND CAROLING TRIP-ALL STUDENTS INVITED-DECEMBER 20th!

We are SO excited for this!  The whole school will head to Lunar Bowl in the morning.  (Bowling is $5.00 per student and $10.00 per adult.)  We will return to school for lunch.  After lunch, we will be going caroling at local nursing homes, but these are not finalized yet.  We will get back to you!  Drivers will be needed for both events, so please mark your calendars.  Thank you!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We discussed the lives of David, Saul, and Jonathan.  We had some mature conversations about jealousy and the sins that occur when we allow jealousy to take over our hearts.  We were all reminded of God’s forgiveness and grace in these circumstances.  We have begun our posters that proclaim that Jesus is King, the Responsibilities of Citizens of the Kingdom of God, and the Rights and Privileges of Citizens of the Kingdom of God.  We are excited to showcase these!

 MEMORY for next week:

12/6-THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not commit adultery. What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we lead a pure and decent life in what we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other.

 12/9-THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT

You shall not steal.  What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not take our neighbor’s money or possessions, or get them in any dishonest way, but help him to improve and protect his possessions and income.

LANGUAGE ARTS- We shared our book reports this week, and they were GREAT!  We’ve got some creative kiddos in here!  We read the story, “Across the Wide, Dark Sea,” this week and learned the vocabulary words from it.  We also worked with finding the main idea, looking words up in a dictionary, and making complete sentences.  We were introduced to our new Author of the Month, Lynn Reid Banks, who is the author of “Indian in the Cupboard.”  This is such a fun, fantasy story, with some historical knowledge woven in there.  What a fun read!  It is neat for me to see the kiddos so intrigued with this read-aloud!

SPELLING WORDS for Friday, December 9th: from the story, “The Screech Owl Who Loved Television.”

somebody, fireplace, nearby, toothbrush, homesick, make-believe, anything, all right, goodbye, forehead, classmate, flashlight, haircut, twenty-two, driveway, alarm clock, baby-sit, airport, forever, mailbox, field trip, absent-minded, *conundrum

MATH- This week we learned how to multiply two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers—good ol’ regrouping!  This was a NEW task, and I am SO proud of their hard work, good attitudes, and awesome effort!  We also learned how to solve multi-step word problems and how to use these skills in everyday life.  We will test over Chapter 5 early next week.

SCIENCE-  We worked on our cell posters this week and began learning all about classifying living things.

SOCIAL STUDIES- We finished up learning about the pilgrims and Wampanoag, and learned how to barter and use “wampum” money in a fun math exercise.  Next week, we will continue with Missouri History.

 SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We read the fun story, “Where the Wild Things Are,” by Maurice Sendak, and then created our own WILD THINGS!  We then painted these using our new knowledge of tinting and shading colors using black and white.

MUSIC-We are working on our Christmas songs for the Advent Service on December 14th.

P.E.- This week, we learned basketball skills—how to shoot layups and free throws!

WRITERS’ WORKSHOP- We finished our Thanksgiving stories and had Readers’ Theatre!

COMPUTER LAB- We learned how to use Google Docs to make menus.  :)

God's Blessings,

Kim
