Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION- We discussed Elijah and the Prophets of Baal and Elijah going to heaven.  We learned what the inside of Solomon’s temple was like, and why different parts of it were there.  We studied the Ark of The Covenant.  We also learned that many promises about Jesus were made through Elijah, and how he helped pave the way for the Lord!

MEMORY for next week: (meaning of the 10th commandment)

1/10- What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not entice or force away our neighbor’s wife, workers, or animals, or turn them against him, but urge them to stay and do their duty.

1/13- We will have a short matching test over the commandments.

LANGUAGE ARTS- This week, we read A LOT!  We had our noses in our Science books, our Scholastic News, and we read a ton from “Indian in the Cupboard!”  In English, we also talked about irregular verbs.  Next week, we will be learning all about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

SPELLING WORDS for next Friday, January 13th: (from “My Brother Martin”) west, steep, member, gleam, fresh, freedom, speed, steam, beast, believe, speck, kept, cheap, pretend, greed, shelf, least, eager, reason, chief, echo, menu, *segregation

MATH- We have been practicing long division with 2 and 3 digit numbers, and with zeroes.  We continue to learn how to interpret the remainders.

SOCIAL STUDIES-In Current Events, we discussed 2022, A Year in Review.  This led to some great discussions—from the Olympics, to Queen Elizabeth, to the stormy weather!  We also took a look at the past and talked about Ernest Shackleton and his escape from Antarctica.

SCIENCE- We are studying the world of plants!  We formed Science groups on Wednesday and researched two different types of leaves.  We observed, asked questions, inferred, and made some educated guesses.  Each 4th grade scientist had a special job when working with his or her group:  They were either a Director, ad Facilitator, a Materials Manager, a Technician, or a Participant.  I was able to witness some great teamwork!  We learned more about the plant kingdom, including the job of seeds, the role of roots and stems, and why leaves are so important.

SPECIAL CLASSES

WRITING- We learned how to write Haiku poems this week!  They are pretty clever!  I cannot wait to share these!

P.E.- We finally played knockout!  Zeke, Caleb, Avery, Emmaryn, Will, and Addy were some of our many winners!  We had some fun!

COMPUTER- We finally completed our menus on Google Docs.  We had some yummy ideas!
