Testing Week-DONE! Whew!

Hello, parents!  This has been a busy week, filled with achievement tests, hard work, and FUN!

 Please mark your calendars!

*FUN DAY is May 5th!  This is just what is sounds like!  ALL students are invited to this day of FUN, as the kiddos do activities outside (obstacle course, jumpy house, tug-of-war, sumo wrestling, etc.) ALL DAY!  We eat a picnic style lunch and have popsicles.  Be sure to wear comfy clothes and tennis shoes…and it is an all-hands-on-deck day!  To pull this off, we need LOTS of parent volunteers. Here is a sign-up genius if you are able to help: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080f4aafac29a1fa7-funday/33181513#/.

*END-OF-THE-YEAR FIELD TRIP-(All 4th Grade Students) To culminate our studies of Missouri History, we are going to the Harry S. Truman Memorial Library and Museum on Tuesday, May 9th! We will leave school at 8:45 and head to the Truman Library (500 W US HWY 24, Independence, MO 64050) for our tour at 9:30.  After this guided tour, we will have a sack lunch at McCoy Park (across the Truman Library), play for a while, and then continue to Burr Oak Woods to hike some fun trails before we get back to school by the end of the school day.  We were able to receive a scholarship for the museum tour, so the students and 7 adult chaperones are free. The tour is about two hours long. (Don't forget to send a sack lunch and drink!) https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DADAB2DA7F58-endoftheyear2

Thank you!

*4TH GRADE’S FAMOUS MISSOURIAN LIVING MUSUEM is on Thursday, May 11th.   It will be from 9:30-10:30 in the 4-G’s area outside of the school hallway.  Please come, see, and learn!  We will be working on this at school, and will be ready!  Students are reading books about famous Missourians.  They will be working on Biography Lap Books, and will be preparing to “become” that person at our museum, reciting or reading facts about their famous Missourian.  Please ask your kiddo what his or her plan is for an outfit.  I am bringing some things I have at home, and some have said they have things as well.  Please don’t stress or go and buy anything!  Together, we should be able to come up with something!  Thank you for your help!  This is a fun event to look forward to!

* SUMMER BIRTHDAYS-  Girls-Tuesday, May 4th; Boys-Thursday, May 11th.  Parents of these kiddos, if you choose to, please just send in a small snack on these days, and we will have of two days of birthdays feasts!  😉  Thank you!

We have tested every morning this week, but we did learn some this week to!  Here is what we have been up to:

RELIGION- We discussed Jesus at Gethsemane, Judas’s betrayal, Peter’s betrayal, and Jesus’ death on the cross .  We are SO thankful to Jesus for taking on sin, death, and the devil for US!  We have been immersed in God’s Word this week, and doing a lot of partner work.

MEMORY for next week-

4/25-You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

4/28-Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

READING next week:  We will finish up our Harry S. Truman chapters books, and will be working like crazy on our Famous Missourian book report projects.  Most kiddos were able to finish their biographies this week between tests.  :)

SPELLING WORDS for Friday, April 28th: (from the book Harry S. Truman: Thirty-Third President of the United States)

although, magazine, introduce, predicted, tremendous, stomach, disease, probably, gradually, difficult, *diphtheria

SCIENCE- We discussed invertebrates and vertebrates this week!  We made models of both, and hypothesized which type of animal was stronger and could hold more weight!  We completed some group work, where we worked together on vocabulary and sharing previous knowledge.

TODAY:

*In honor of Earth Day, we picked up trash around the property.  We used gloves, trash bags, and had a beautiful walk outside along our Rams Run route.

*We partied it up a little bit today with popcorn, juice, and finally watching the movie of the novel we read, “Holes.”  We wanted to celebrate a “Job Well Done” on testing!  It was a relaxing and fun afternoon!

SPECIAL CLASSES:

ART- We studied Osage pottery this week, and recreated some pots using fast-drying clay.  This was fun (and MESSY!)  ;)  We will paint them next week!

MUSIC-We practiced songs for our Spring Program.  We have also continued rehearsing with the band.

WRITING- This week, we shared our partner letters to the “Princess of Boglivia”  during Readers’ Theatre.  We also read short biographies about famous immigrants and answered questions about them.

COMPUTERS-We worked on icivics.com.
