Here is our newsletter! :)

Hello, Parents!  This has been an AMAZING week!  Thank you for all of your prayers and guidance as we have navigated through our National Lutheran Schools Week!

Some of our 4th grade kiddos entered a contest entitled, “The Color of Kindness,” put on by the Rotary Club in Blue Springs.  You can see their entries and/or vote for them at

https://www.gogophotocontest.com/rotarybluesprings/search.

Thank you!

Our third quarter MISSION PROJECT is underway!  We are collecting  canned goods and other non-perishable items for LUMA.  (Lutheran Urban Mission Agency.)  We will be collecting these items in the classroom until February 7th.  There is a class contest too!  The winning class gets either a root beer float or ice cream sundae party!  ;)  We have been talking about how GOing out and helping people is our mission as Christians.  It has been shared with us that there is a large need for canned meat (other an tuna), peanut butter, and hygiene products.  THANK YOU!

Here is a rundown of our week:

*Monday was BLACKOUT day, where we discussed "Stripping Sway our Hindrances."  We started the day with devotions in the gym with Mrs. Self, and then made beautiful cards, valentines, and letters for our Homebound members.  It was such a blessing to be able to share our faith in this way!

*Tuesday was FAVORITE HOLIDAY day, and we discussed "Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus!"  In the afternoon, we boogied down in the gym to some fun tunes and learned some new dance moves!  What a way to take care of our bodies!

*Wednesday was CHAPEL FAMILY DRESS day, where we decided as Chapel Families how to dress.  :)  The theme was "Enduring the Cross."  We also had our Bible Bee in the afternoon.  Our 4th grade representatives were Colton, Levi, and Lydia.  They did SUCH a great job!  We were so proud of them!  This year's winner, was 6th grader, Zeke Nicolaus!  Way to go, Zeke!

*Thursday was FAVORITE SPORT day!  The theme was “The Joy Set Before Us.”  In the afternoon, we were visited by the ZooMobile!  Fun was had by all!

*Friday was DRESS YOUR BEST and GRANDPARENTS’ DAY!  We had fun visiting, playing, eating, and creating with grandparents and watching or participating in the Talent Show!

*STUDENT-LED CONFERENCING is coming up—February 13th and 14th!  Your child will be leading this conference, so please make sure they are able to be present!  They are excited to share their work, their personal report card, and their NWEA scores with you!  If you are unable to come on the 13 or 14th, please just send me an email and we will find a time after school that works for you and your child.  Thank you!

*VALENTINE’S DAY is coming up!  We will have a classroom party the morning of the 14th.  We will be making valentine bags, playing some games, and having some treats.  :)  You don’t need to make a special valentine holder at home, unless you want to, as we will be decorating bags here at school.  If your child chooses to send in valentines, please make sure each child in our classroom receives one.  Here is our list.  Thank you!

What time?  6:00-10:00

Where?  The Farmhouse KC

17221 E 32nd St S, Independence, MO 64055

* If you would like to purchase your tickets for the annual event, just go to the home page of our website, www.timothylutheranschool.com, and click on the Aloha Nights graphic. If you have an item, tickets, basket, service, etc. that you would like to donate, please contact the school office. If you or someone you know would like to be an auction sponsor to help defray the costs of the auction, we have various levels and items that can be specifically adopted.

*4th Graders have been working on our project that will be auctioned off too!  We studied Psalm 139, focusing primarily on verse 14—“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  your works are wonderful,  I know that full well.”  We discussed how God created each of us with all of our intricate details and how we are beautiful!  We shared the book, “The Best Part of Me,” and have written our own edition of it.  This is “published,” and up for auction!  To go with this theme, we painted the frame of a mirror, emblazoned with the words “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Here is what we have been up to this week:

RELIGION: This week, we talked about how Jesus told the “little children to come unto Him,” despite what the disciples thought!  We talked about how God wants for us to have faith like a child, and wants us to share our faith with others.  We also studied the first petition of the Lord’s Prayer.

MEMORY:

2/4 -The Apostle's Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

2/7-was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.

The third day He rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of God

the Father Almighty.

MATH:  We stared fractions this week!  We are studying equivalent fractions, and how to use fraction bars, as well as the multiplication method to find them.  We will start adding and subtracting fractions next week, by finding common denominators.  We are working on 12s in mad minutes.

LANGUAGE ARTS: We began reading the Newbery Award winning book, “Ramona and Her Father,” by Beverly Cleary.  This is such a good story, and the students can’t seem to put it down!  We have been working with cause and effect and character analysis as well.  We share our book reports yesterday and also learned about our February book reports—mysteries!

SPELLING WORDS for Friday, February 7th: pest, grownup, kindergarten, tricycle, sloppy, disappointed, cleverness, managed, alarmed, costume, *especially

Special Classes:

ART:  We wove paper hearts to decorate our classroom for February.

P.E.:  We worked on our Presidential Physical Fitness unit.  We worked on lunges and the shuttle run.

MUSIC:  We practiced the songs that we have been singing in our devotions each day this week of NLSW.

Have a fabulous weekend!  God's Blessings!

Kim
