Dear 4th Grade Parents,
It has been a great, fun week! We finished up with our Walk-A-Thon today and had tons of fun! God blessed us with beautiful weather, healthy bodies, and great friends. THANK YOU for all of your support, volunteerism, and donations! Your child will be coming home with a name tag today that indicates how many laps he or she completed. If you need to use this to collect money from your loved ones, please do so. We will be collecting until October 6th. :) You can still donate online too! I have attached the QR code. We are excited to purchase the much-needed new lunch tables for our cafe-gym-a-torium! ;)
Upcoming Events:
*EARLY RELEASE - on Wednesday, October 1st! Teachers are headed to St. Louis for our LEA Teachers' Convention. We are joining 2, 800 other Lutheran educators from the U.S. and from 5 other countries to learn, to worship, and to fellowship. It is SO exciting! We will not have school on Thursday and Friday.
*UPCOMING FIELD TRIP- We still have room for more parents, if you are available! On Friday, October 10th, we will be traveling to Coterie Theatre located inside Crown Center, 2450 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108, to see the play A Wrinkle in Time. The play begins at 10 o'clock. We will leave school at 8:45 and return by 12:00, just in time for lunch! We will need drivers for this field trip! All tickets, students and parents, are paid for. Thank you! Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION- This week, we learned all about the tabernacle and God’s lessons with the snake on the pole! Pastor Ryan came in on Tuesday so we could ask him a lot of questions about becoming a pastor, what his Calling entails, and how we can pray for him and assist him. It was a wonderful time, and we learned so much from him! We learned that we must always listen to the “nudge” or Call from God, and that He truly does speak to us through different people. We also need to make sure that we are always praying for our pastors—uplifting them in daily prayer, that God gives them peace, clarity, and rest. They are such a BLESSING to all of us, and we must take care of them!
Upcoming MEMORY:
9/30- A mighty fortress is our God,
A trusty shield and weapon;
He helps us free from ev'ry need
That has us now o'ertaken.
10/7-The old evil foe
Now means deadly woe;
Deep guile and great might
Are his dread arms in fight;
On earth is not his equal.
10/10- Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger;
LANGUAGE ARTS- In class, we read a play entitled, “The Power of W.O.W,” which was a story of kids collaborating together to save their beloved library. Fourth graders had some fun acting all of this our and showcasing our acting talents! :) In class, we discussed sentence fragments, run-on sentences, and how to use a graphic organizer to document a story. We have been busy! Please remind your 4th grader that Newbery Award book reports and projects are due next Tuesday! We will not have SPELLING WORDS next week.
SPELLING WORDS for the Week of October 10th:
Story: Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude
bunch, fruit, argue, crumb, crew, tune, juice, refuse, truth, young, clue, trunk, amuse, suit, rude, trust, dew, stuck, rescue, brush, computer, mustard
Challenge Word: horrendous
MATH- This week, we have been reviewing long addition and long subtraction and using these skills to solve real-world word problems. We are struggling a bit with subtraction and regrouping, so we will be practicing this skill next week too. We also have been focusing on our 4’s multiplication tables. The kiddos are doing well! Please keep practicing at home.
SCIENCE- We were leaf detectives this week! We worked in groups, went on a leaf hunt, collected 10 leaves, and using a hand lens studied them and then classified them.
SPECIAL CLASSES
ART- We discussed blind contours and practiced doing several blind contour drawings in class. This was a lot of fun, and we had a ton of giggles! We then studied some adorable cats, and drew cat contours, filling them in with tempera paint. They are beautiful!
MUSIC- During music class, we have been practicing songs for the Veterans' Day Program and for our Advent Service.
WRITING- We began working on our BioPoems this week—poems all about each one of us! We drafted, edited, revised, and published our Bio Poems, and shared them at Readers’ Theatre!
COMPUTERS- We published our BioPoems and worked on typing.com.
P.E.- We worked on serving this week. We practiced both overhand and underhand.
SPANISH- Students have been exchanging pleasantries with Mr. Murray in Spanish and practicing common words.
Have a blessed weekend!
Kim
