See you at the parade! :)

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

We have had a busy, fun-filled week!  Thank you for working with your child at home too!
 Upcoming Events:
*EARLY RELEASE - TODAY!  We dismiss at 12:30!  Midterms are coming home in your student's Homework Folder.   Thank you!
*PARADE - TOMORROW!  TLS has a float in the Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest Parade this Saturday, Sept. 20th. We will meet behind the Blue Springs School District Office at 1801 NW Vesper St. at 9:30 and are entry #60. The parade begins at 10am and ends at St. John LaLande church and school. All students participating must have a parent/adult walking as part of the TLS gang. We recommend parking near St. John for the easiest exit.  See you tomorrow!  You can wear your TLS Rams colors if you'd like!

*Just a reminder--Timothy Lutheran School’s 9th annual WALK-A-THON is NEXT Friday, September 26th from 1:30-2:30.  We are hosting this fun fundraiser to raise funds for our school—to purchase the much-needed new lunch tables for our cafe-gym-a-torium!  ;) All students will be participating and can get pledges for completing their laps around the school’s parking lots.  If a student chooses not to get pledges, it is okay!   We need parent volunteers if you are available.   We will need people to send in snacks, to keep track of laps, and to stand as route guards and cheerleaders!  Forms are coming home today.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION- In Religion class this week, we talked about how God gave Moses his helpers—Aaron, Joshua, and Jethro, amongst others… Then, we had a discussion about how God intends for us all to have Christian helpers in our lives to guide and assist us, including our beloved pastors.  We had a whole lesson about elders and how they assist the pastor.  Next Monday, Pastor Ryan is going to visit us and share his knowledge with us and answer our questions.
MEMORY for Next Week: 9/23-
Hebrews
James
1 & 2 Peter
1 , 2, & 3 John
Jude
Revelation

9/26-Recite all of the New Testament Books
LANGUAGE ARTS-We read a story entitled, Stormalong, a tall-tale about a sailor on one of the northeast’s’ old clipper ships.  We had so much fun reading and discussing this story.  Thank you for taking time to listen to it at home as well!  It is so very important for your child to being his or her reading book home at least once a week to review the story we are sharing in class.  This helps with retention, as well as oratory skills.  With this story, we discussed hyperboles, homophones, and discussed how to use reference materials.  In English, we learned how to use common and proper nouns.  Please remind your student that our Newbery book reports and projects are due September 30th.
SPELLING WORDS for the Week of September 26th:
Story: The Power of W.O.W.
block, shown, oatmeal, wrote, fellow, scold, coast, odd, locate, slope, throat, host, online, shock, solve, known, remote, stock, boast, globe, bonus, approach

MATH- We began discussing and reviewing Addition and Subtraction Properties and Rules, addition and subtraction patterns, how to add and subtract mentally, and how to estimate sums and differences next week!
SCIENCE- We learned all about leaves this week and how photosynthesis works.  We discussed that it is part of God's design for living thigs.  He designed plants to need the carbon dioxide that people breathe out!  What an amazing God we have!  Next week, we will be leaf detectives!
SPECIAL CLASSES
ART- We learned all about LINES this week!  We discussed the term “contour line,” and have drawn a contour of an animal to fill in with all of the lines we have learned.  They are cool!
MUSIC- Students sang hymns praising Jesus and learned songs for our parade!
COMPUTERS-We worked on practicing the home keys on typing.com.
WRITING- This week, we shared the last of our Summer Vacation stories and began writing our own fictional stories using the writing process of planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.

Mr. Murray greets the kiddos each day at his classroom door with greetings in Spanish!

A gentle reminder from God...
