Hi! We have had a wonderful week in 4th grade! We've been working hard in here! I am leaving early today because I am visiting family out of town, so I am sending this letter a bit early. Your kiddos are in good hands with Mrs. Barnett. :)
Upcoming Events:
*We will be commemorating VETERAN'S DAY next Tuesday, November 11th at 9 am. Our students will be singing, reading poetry and prayers, and thanking God for our veterans. That day, please have your student wear one of the following:
Their "America the Beautiful" red t-shirt from last year
A Rams Shirt
Red, White, and Blue
Or, if they have a uniform or hat from a branch of the service that belongs to someone they love, they can wear/bring it. Thank you!
*We will have a 12:30 dismissal next Friday, November 14th. It is the midterm!
*On Tuesday, November 25th, at 11:00, the 4th graders will have their classroom Thanksgiving Feast in lieu of lunch. We will be studying the first Thanksgiving and all about the Pilgrims and Wampanoag. We will also be talking about all the things we, as Christian Americans, should be thankful for! What a wonderful way to praise our Father for all He has given! I will supply the turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy, but if you are willing to send in some “extras” it would be mighty appreciated! Please take a look at the sign-up if you are able! (I have several outlets in our classroom for crock pots, if needed.) Thanks so much for your help!
Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION- We have learned the stories of Elisha and the Shunammite Woman, Ahab and Naboth’s Vineyard, King Josiah, and Daniel in the Lions Den. Many of these were new stories to some of us, but the lessons had one constant: We put many things before God, and we need to remember to keep Him foremost and center in our lives. He gives us so many blessings, and many times, we overlook those, to focus on the negative things that are happening around us. We also discussed how we have so many opportunities to share our faith—In our homes, neighborhoods, in public, and at school. We talked about how at times, actions speak so much louder than words, and how to always make sure we are showing that we are Christians by our LOVE.
MEMORY:
11/11-THE THIRD COMMANDMENT
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
What does this mean?
We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it.
11/14-THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT
Honor your father and your mother.
What does this mean?
We should fear and love God so that we do not despise or anger our parents and other authorities, but honor them, serve and obey them, love and cherish them.
LANGUAGE ARTS- This week, we read the book “The Butterfly” by Patricia Polacco. This book is a true story about WWII, the invasion of the Nazis, and the French underground and resistance. We had some very poignant conversations about the war, about bravery, and about soldiers that fight for what they believe in. We also used other books of Patricia Polacco’s to discuss the Civil War and WWI. (“Pink and Say” and “Tucky Jo and Little Heart.”) We used Venn diagrams, character analysis, and sequencing events to understand these stories. We also had large discussions about veterans and Veterans Day this week.
