Hello, 4th grade parents! It is so good to be back! I have missed the kids so very much! We have had a busy, but great week! After I send this out, I am scrubbing down our classroom, in hopes of ridding it of all of the germs. I pray we stay well. :)

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
RELIGION-We studied the visit of the Magi and the presentation of Baby Jesus to Simeon and Anna in the temple. We also discussed the way John the Baptist paved the way for Jesus and about Jesus' Baptism. We shared various ways we can be like John the Baptist to others by reminding them to confess and repent. In Chapel this week, Pastor Ryan talked about how Jesus showed his power in these events and showed how He was TRUE GOD. Next week, we will have a classroom Bible Trivia contest to see who our class competitors will be for the Bible Bee during NLSW!
MEMORY-
1/13- Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
1/16- And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
LANGUAGE ARTS/SOCIAL STUDIES-We have begun studying the lives of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks. We read his short biography, and watched his “I Have a Dream” speech. In Reading class, we read the story written by his sister, “My Brother, Martin,” and have been studying words like “protest” and “boycott” that have helped us understand these events in history. We will continue learning about them and the Civil Rights Movement next week.
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, January 16th: (from “Happy Birthday, Dr. King!”)
peaceful, protest, fare, injustice, boycott, civil rights, dream, equality, freedom, movement, treatment, kindness, *stupendous
MATH-This week, we tested over long division and began learning about fractions. We have learned what the word equivalent means and have learned how to use fraction bars. We have also been working on 12s in mad minutes!
MO HISTORY- We discussed and learned about the Mountain States. A lot of us have visited there, so we had a lot of stories to share! We had some fun discussing the types of jobs that are available there, as well as the how people use the various landscapes.
Special Classes:
MUSIC- We practiced our songs for the Talent Show!
P.E.- We learned some parachute games this week.
SPANISH-Classroom rules in Spanish and how to have a conversation in Spanish.
ART-We learned how to cut out snowflakes from coffee filters (FUN!), and then we made Snowflake Snowmen out of them. :) We painted the backgrounds using white oil pastels for the snowflakes and salt and watercolor to make them pop! We have been working on our auction project as well!
WRITERS' WORKSHOP- We began our personal narratives this week!
COMPUTERS-This week, we practiced on Google Docs.
Blessings,
Kim
