Happy Weekend! Stay warm! :)

Hello, parents!  We have had a great week!

*We had a BLAST on our field trip to Kauffmann Stadium today!  We were able to visit the clubhouse, the press box, take a tour of the stands outside the field, and have some fun doing a scavenger hunt in the Hall of Fame, and measure a bunch things for a math challenge.  What a great time!  Thank you to our chaperones and drivers!

*NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK (NLSW) kicks off on Sunday, January 25, with all our students singing at the beginning of both services (9 & 10:30). This is a special week set aside by all Lutheran Schools nationwide to celebrate together.  Timothy has a fun Spirit Week that week, where we dress in a special way every day and also do special activities.  (PLEASE don’t go out and purchase anything for these days—Just use items from around your home!)  Please use the link below to find out more details.

*4th Graders finished our project that will be auctioned off too!  It is a mosaic that focuses on the Bible verse Romans 6:23.  "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord."  We have entitled our art, "Eternal Life."

Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
RELIGION-We focused on the stories of "Jesus Calling Matthew" and of “Jesus Healing the Official's Daughter.” We talked about the power of God, and how He sent Jesus who can heal our sickness of body and soul.  Praise the Lord!  We discussed the third and fourth petitions of the Lord’s Prayer. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. We reviewed what God’s Will actually is and what daily bread is, which is all of our daily gifts from God that we need.  We are so very blessed to be His sons and daughters!
MEMORY-
1/20- Be able to say the entire Lord’s Prayer.

1/23- Luther’s Evening Prayer : I thank You, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have graciously kept me this day; and I pray You to forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night.

LANGUAGE ARTS/SOCIAL STUDIES- We learned more about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks in the story, "Happy Birthday, Dr. King," where we discussed a boy who learned a valuable lesson.  He turned something silly into somethings stupendous!  We discussed cause and effect, chronological order, and genre.
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, January 23rd:  Story: Dear Mr. Winston
spark, prepare, cheer, tear, scarf, scare, repair, earring, scarce, weird, sharp,
rear, spare, gear, hairy, compare, alarm, harsh, upstairs, square, weary, startle
Challenge Word: omnipresent

MATH- We finished up our first unit about fractions!  We have learned how to read them, how to put them in order, and how to find common denominators.  We will test this material next Tuesday.  Please continue working on multiplication fast facts at home.  We are seeing first-hand how having those facts memorized helps us in math and in daily life!  Thank you for your help!
MO HISTORY- We discussed the western states and all of the fun and beautiful geography and history there.

Special Classes:
MUSIC- We practiced our songs for the Talent Show!  ("Children of the Heavenly Father" and "Shalom.")
SPANISH- Students learned how say subjects and verbs and how to conjugate verbs.
ART-We learned how to draw portraits and then drew and painted portraits of Martin Luther Kin, Jr.  These are hanging in the hallway and look fantastic!
WRITERS' WORKSHOP- We wrote our "dreams" for the future and shared our personal narratives in Readers' Theatre.

Blessings,
Kim
