Here is what we have been up to in the classroom:
RELIGION- This week, we dug deeper into the Lord's Prayer as we discussed the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th petitions. We reviewed the stories of Saul becoming Paul and how he shared God's Word. We reviewed all of God's gifts to us, and how He daily supplies us with our "daily bread," and all of life's needs and gifts.
MEMORY-3/3- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ~John 1:1
3/6- The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these. ~ Mark 12:31
LANGUAGE ARTS- This week, we read the biography, “Harvesting Hope,” which is about Cesar Chavez and his quest to find equal rights form migrant farm workers. We had wonderful discussions about peaceful protests, U.S. citizenship, and God creating us all equal. We worked on these skills: conclusions and generalizations, finding solutions, using suffixes, and idioms. We shared our February Mystery Movie Poster book reports! They are awesome! We learned all about what we are doing for our March reports too!
SPELLING WORDS for Friday, March 6th: Story: Ramona and Her Father
genuine, anxious, comet, pretend, utilize, cross, urge, coax, swifter, outrunning, Challenge Word: unfortunately
MATH- We learned how to take an improper fraction and turn it into a mixed number and how to multiply fractions. We are almost finished memorizing those multiplication facts! Next week, we will have completed 100 mad minutes! Woohoo!
SCIENCE- We shared our STEM experiments, where we were challenged to design a tool that would disperse seeds at least 1 meter, using only wind. These were amazing! (Thanks for your help on these!) We completed Chapter 2. We reviewed today and played Jeopardy to prepare for the test next Monday. SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS-We learned what School of Economics is this week, and this got us VERY EXCITED! We are headed to the School of Economics on Tuesday, March 31st! We will start preparing in the classrooms next week! We will be meeting with the 5th and 6th graders twice a week, (Tuesdays and Thursdays), and learning skills such as making a budget, buying supplies, understanding supply/demand, writing checks, selling goods, working cooperatively, HAVING A TON OF FUN, and much more! It takes a lot of work in class to make this special day flow, and we are getting ready!
We will need some of you to help that day! We will need between 8-13 parent volunteers for this trip. Parent help is needed ALL DAY, but space is limited, so slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. THANK YOU for all of you that have signed up. We still have a few spots left. These parents will have training at the School of Economics at 8:45, the day of our visit. We will meet them there, which also means we need some parents that will only be able to drive us there and drop us off. We will need to leave school no later than 9:10.

A paper copy permission slip is coming home today that all students have to have in order to attend.
Other important information:
-There is not a cost for you, as you paid for this field trip in your enrichment fees this fall.
-Students will NOT need to pack a lunch, as they will be making their own lunches that day. **If your child has food allergies and would rather bring in their own food out of safety concerns, that is preferred - please speak with your child's teacher. (Volunteers will be given School of Economics money that day to buy lunch too!)
-Our day ends there at 1:30, so we should return to school about 2:00.
-If you want to help, but all the spots are taken, please contact your child's teacher, and we'll put you on a "will-call" list in the case that another parent has to back out. Thank you in advance for your help!! Please let me know if you have any questions.
