It has been another beautiful week! We have been busy in here!

*PICTURE DAY is next Thursday, September 17th! Ordering information will come home soon.
*PLEASE CONSIDER donating some time to work in our TIMMY BURGER BOOTH at the Fall Fun Fest over the weekend of September 18-20! It is a lot of fun, a perfect time to witness, and of course, a Timmy Burger will be in your future! ;) Families can sign-up together to work too. You can find the link at the bottom of this page:
*Timothy Lutheran will be walking in the Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest PARADE on Saturday, September 19th! This is such a fun event! The parade begins about 10am, so please arrive at our float at 9:30. Please have students wear Rams t-shirts, uniforms, or Timothy colors (red, blue, white). It begins near the Career Innovation Center (where the old Freshman Center was) on Vesper Road, and always ends at St. John LaLande on R.D. Mize Road. We ask that parents walk (or ride) with your kiddos, please. What a way to show and share the love of Jesus with all of Blue Springs! Come and show our Rams’ pride!
*EARLY RELEASE - Midterms are next Friday, Sept. 18th. We release at 12:30 - however there will be aftercare available for those parents that cannot make it at 12:30.
*4th graders will be taking our MAP Growth Assessments during the week of 9/22.
What is a MAP Growth Assessment?
It is a measure of what your student knows and how they are growing academically. Timothy Lutheran School will be assessing students three times each school year for academic growth; early September, early January, and late April/early May.
*Timothy Lutheran School’s 10th annual WALK-A-THON is Friday, September 25th from 1:30-2:30. We are hosting this fundraiser to raise funds for our school to purchase a much needed canopy shade tent for our big-kid playground! All students will be participating and can get pledges for completing their laps around the school’s parking lots. If a student chooses not to get pledges, it is okay! We need parent volunteers if you are available. We will need people to send in snacks, to keep track of laps, and to stand as route guards and cheerleaders! Forms will come home next week!

UPCOMING FIELD TRIP- On Friday, October 9th, the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will be traveling to Kauffman Stadium for a stadium tour and some activities! We will leave school at 8:45 and return by 12:00, just in time for lunch! We are allowed up to 12 additional adults in total. We will need plenty of drivers for this field trip! If you are able to drive, please let us know on the field trip waiver form coming home today. (This will be in your child’s Homework Folder.) Please sign and return the waiver coming home with your child today.
*We had our STAR PARTY today and watched the movie, “Because of WInn Dixie!” Thanks for the MANY snacks and love. We filled in Venn Diagrams to show the similarities and differences between the book and the movie. :)
Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION- One of my highlights that we do every day, is that we have devotions every morning, followed by highs and lows, which is always so wonderful, as I get an insight into the children’s lives that I normally would not get the chance to see. It is so wonderful…We always then pray for one another and give each other a blessing. Your sweet students have all been praying for my dad, for my family, and for me. It is truly a blessing! This week, we learned about the life of Moses, the 10 Plagues, and the exodus out of Egypt. We talked about baptism, and the many gifts that God gives us and how to use these to glorify Him.

9/18-Recite all of the New Testament Books
SOCIAL STUDIES-This week we discussed the tragedies of September 11th, 2001. We watched a short video about this fateful day, and also read several books and had a very candid discussion. We made beautiful illustrations about our thoughts…This led to a great discussion about God and His love for us. We shared the Bible verse Romans 8: 38-39….and discussed how God will never, ever leave us. We used this verse to illustrate our thoughts of 9/11.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.~ Romans 8: 38-39
LANGUAGE ARTS- We finished up the novel Because of Winn Dixie! This was such an amazing book, and led to so many discussions about friendship, not judging one another, and what forgiveness looks like. This book has a lot of sadness in it too, and it has been the perfect opportunity to connect this story to our faith, and how sin is in the world, but we need to remember that Jesus has conquered that sin and death, and we can form friendships and help one another with those hardships of life.
Please remind your student that our Newbery book reports and projects are due September 30th.
Skills we reviewed this week: character development, cause and effect, long and short i words, and problems/solutions.

MATH- This week, we began talking in depth about Number Sense and have worked on using a "number of the day" and dissecting it down to understand it and its qualities. We have begun adding 4 and 5 digit numbers and worked on regrouping today. We will begin working on our 4’s in multiplication mad minutes on Monday! Please keep working at home!
SCIENCE- We discussed roots and stems, and parts of the tree and its functions. We discussed how God designed stems and trunks to provide support and to move the nutrients that plants need. We have been learning a lot of new vocabulary words!
SPECIAL CLASSES
ART- We finished up our Expressionistic horizon pictures, and worked on our BioPoems.
MUSIC/SPANISH- A note from Mr. Murray: In both Spanish and Music class, students worked to learn the required classroom behaviors and expectations. Additionally, in music, students worked on proper singing posture and breathing techniques.
COMPUTERS-We published our summer vacation stories and our letters to Mrs. B.
WRITING- This week, we worked on our BioPoems and used the Writing Process: planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.
P.E.- We worked on volleyball skills this week—passing and setting!
