Dear 4th Grade Parents,
We have had a busy, fun-filled week! Thank you for working with your child at home too!
Thank you for the many prayers for my family. I know I may sound like a broken record, but being here daily, among these kiddos who LOVE Jesus, is healing to my heart. They share their faith openly, and we share highs and lows as a sweet, little family.
Some of my extended family is coming in this weekend to spend time with Dad. We are trying to cherish each sweet moment. Thank you for lifting us up in prayer.
Upcoming Events:
*EARLY RELEASE - TODAY! We dismiss at 12:30! Midterms are coming home in your student's Homework Folder. Thank you!
*Timothy Lutheran will be walking in the Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest PARADE on Saturday, September 19th! This is such a fun event! The parade begins about 10am, so please arrive at our float at 9:30. Please have students wear Rams t-shirts, uniforms, or Timothy colors (red, blue, white). It begins near the Career Innovation Center (where the old Freshman Center was) on Vesper Road, and always ends at St. John LaLande on R.D. Mize Road. We ask that parents walk (or ride) with your kiddos, please. What a way to show and share the love of Jesus with all of Blue Springs! Come and show our Rams’ pride!
*4th graders will be taking our MAP Growth Assessments NEXT week! Please make sure your kiddo eats a healthy breakfast and gets plenty of rest.
*Timothy Lutheran School’s 10th annual WALK-A-THON is Friday, September 25th from 1:30-2:30. We are hosting this fundraiser to raise funds for our school to purchase a much needed canopy shade tent for our big-kid playground! All students will be participating and can get pledges for completing their laps around the school’s parking lots. If a student chooses not to get pledges, it is okay! We need parent volunteers if you are available. We will need people to send in snacks, to keep track of laps, and to stand as route guards and cheerleaders! Forms will come home next week!

UPCOMING FIELD TRIP- On Friday, October 9th, the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will be traveling to Kauffman Stadium for a stadium tour and some activities! We will leave school at 8:45 and return by 12:00, just in time for lunch! We are allowed up to 12 additional adults in total. We will need plenty of drivers for this field trip! If you are able to drive, please let us know on the field trip waiver form coming home today. (This will be in your child’s Homework Folder.) Please sign and return the waiver coming home with your child today.
Here is what we have been up to this week:
RELIGION- In Religion class this week, we talked about how God gave Moses his helpers—Aaron, Joshua, and Jethro, amongst others… Then, we had a discussion about how God intends for us all to have Christian helpers in our lives to guide and assist us, including our beloved pastors. We had a whole lesson about elders and how they assist the pastor. Next Tuesday, Pastor Ryan is going to visit us and share his knowledge with us and answer our questions. We will meet with Pastor Kendall when he returns from his mission trip!
MEMORY for Next Week:
9/22-THE FIRST COMMANDMENT You shall have no other gods. What does this mean? We should fear, love, and trust in God above all things.
9/25-THE SECOND COMMANDMENT You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie or deceive by His name, but call upon Him in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks.
LANGUAGE ARTS-We read a story entitled, Stormalong, a tall-tale about a sailor on one of the northeast’s’ old clipper ships. We had so much fun reading and discussing this crazy story! Next week, we will start bringing our reading books home once a week because it is very important for your child to review the story we are sharing in class. This helps with retention, as well as oratory skills. With this story, we discussed hyperboles, homophones, and discussed how to use reference materials. In English, we learned how to use common and proper nouns. Please remind your student that our Newbery book reports and projects are due September 30th.

MATH- This week, we have been reviewing long addition and long subtraction and using these skills to solve real-world word problems. We are struggling a bit with subtraction and regrouping, so we will be practicing this skill next week too. We also have been focusing on our 4’s multiplication tables. The kiddos are doing well! Please keep practicing at home.
SCIENCE- We learned all about leaves this week and how photosynthesis works. We discussed that it is part of God's design for living things. He designed plants to need the carbon dioxide that people breathe out! What an amazing God we have! Next week, we will be leaf detectives!
SPECIAL CLASSES
ART- We learned all about LINES this week! We discussed the term “contour line,” and have drawn a contour of an animal to fill in with all of the lines we have learned. They are cool!
WRITING- This week, we finished up our BioPoems and shared them in Readers’ Theatre!
P.E.- We worked on volleyball--bow and arrow hitting and serving!
SPANISH-Students began their study of the Spanish alphabet and very rudimentary phonics. They focused on the differentiation between vowels in both languages.
MUSIC-In music, students expanded their warmup, learned about the difference between pitch and notes, and sang their first songs together.
