It was a great Walk-A-Thon!

 

Dear 4th Grade Parents,

It has been a great, fun week!  We finished up with our Walk-A-Thon today and had tons of fun!  God blessed us with beautiful weather, healthy bodies, and great friends. THANK YOU for all of your support, volunteerism, and donations!    Your child will be coming home with a name tag today that indicates how many laps he or she completed.  If you need to use this to collect money from your loved ones, please do so.  We will be collecting until October 5th.  :)  You can still donate online too!   I have attached the QR code.  We are excited to purchase the much-needed new tent for our playground.  ;) 

 Upcoming Events:

*UPCOMING FIELD TRIP- UPCOMING FIELD TRIP- On Friday, October 9th, the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will be traveling to Kauffman Stadium for a stadium tour and some activities!  We will leave school at 8:45 and return by 12:00, just in time for lunch! We have all of the parent drivers that we need.  Thank you!  Please sign and return the waiver.   

*PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES are coming up--Thursday and Friday, October 29th and 30th. I am looking forward to visiting with you about your child's grades, work habits, and how they are generally doing in 4th grade!  Please pick a time that works best for you and your family.  If you cannot find one that suits you, please email me, and we will work something out!

Here is what we have been up to this week:

TESTING-We finished up our Fall NWEA testing this week and your kiddos worked hard!  For those that missed a test, they will make these up next week.  Results will come home at parent/teacher conferences.  

RELIGION- Pastor Ryan came in on Tuesday so we could ask him a lot of questions about becoming a pastor, what his Calling entails, and how we can pray for him and assist him.  It was a wonderful time, and we learned so much from him!  We learned that we must always listen to the “nudge” or Call from God, and that He truly does speak to us through different people.  We also need to make sure that we are always praying for our pastors—uplifting them in daily prayer, that God gives them peace, clarity, and rest.  They are such a BLESSING to all of us, and we must take care of them!  

Upcoming MEMORY: 

9/29-THE THIRD COMMANDMENT Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not despise preaching and His Word, but hold it sacred and gladly hear and learn it. 

10/2-Matthew 22:37-39 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

LANGUAGE ARTS- In class, we read a play entitled, “The Power of W.O.W,” which was a story of kids collaborating together to save their beloved library.  Fourth graders had some fun acting all of this out and showcasing our acting talents!  :) In class, we discussed sentence fragments, run-on sentences, and how to use a graphic organizer to document a story.  We have been busy!  Please remind your 4th grader that Newbery Award book reports and projects are due next Wednesday!

MATH- This week, we worked on solving long word problems with multi-step solutions.  I am proud of the kiddos and their hard work.   We tested over Unit 3 and will begin multiplication and division next week!  We are onto our 5’s in mad minutes and doing well!  

SPECIAL CLASSES

ART- We discussed blind contours and practiced doing several blind contour drawings in class.  This was a lot of fun, and we had a ton of giggles!  We then studied some adorable cats, and drew cat contours, filling them in with tempera paint.  They are beautiful!  

MUSIC-In music class, students furthered their understanding of the difference between pitch and notes while also being introduced to beats and rhythm. The students also spent a large amount of time learning their songs for the Veteran's Day concert. 

WRITING- We worked on BioPoems this week and also worked on finding run-on and fragmented sentences.  

COMPUTERS- We published in the Computer Lab. 

P.E.- We stretched and ran as a group, and played outside in the beautiful weather this week.  

SPANISH- In Spanish class, students continued to develop their understanding of the Spanish alphabet; additionally, students read their first story in Spanish which was around four lines long.
