Dear Parents,
I am happy to back at school. Thank you so much for all of your prayers before, during, and after Emma’ heart surgery this week. She and I could definitely feel them, and we are so blessed to be a part of this Timothy Family of friends and loved ones. The doctors were able to “fix” her, and she is still healing, but is young, and strong, and will back to school next week! God is SO good! It is amazing that these tremendous and talented doctors at Children’s’ Mercy were able to fix her heart, and then send her home that very evening. Wow! We are blessed beyond measure.
Our fall party is Friday, October 26th. An online permission slip was sent out last week. Please let me know if you have any questions, or have trouble signing up. I know some of you have experienced some difficulties, and I am not quite sure why, but I will sign you up, if that is the case!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 25 & 26. An email went out about this as well. Please sign up, and I will send the final schedule out next week. I SO look forward to meeting with each of you!
Students are responding well to the October Mission Project challenge, “Fighting the 45”. One Chapel Family has already surpassed their $45 goal! Each Chapel Family that meets this challenge will enjoy a “Dessert Day” after lunch. This afternoon, students enjoyed ‘squashing homework’ and watched a movie with their school friends. It was a great, fun day!
Here is what we did this week:
In Religion, we talked a lot about Martin Luther, and learned about his life. Today we discussed what saints are. We will continue to learn about the Reformation complete several fun projects with it next week.
Memory work for next week is:
October 16- No one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:3
October 19- We, though many, are one body in Christ. Romans 12:15
In Language Arts this week, third graders read a story about what illustrators do and fourth graders learned about how movies are made to be exciting. Both were very informative essays, and ones that we can learn from.
In Math, third graders finished up their chapter with longer subtraction and will test over it on Monday, and fourth graders tested over their unit about variables and addition properties. Both grades will complete a short unit on money and time next week. This is good review for them!
In Science this week, we began our chapter about plant life cycles. We dive head first into this next week by experimenting with lima beans! New vocabulary words came home on Wednesday, with a study sheet for your child. I will resend this if need be.
During Art, we made fall Halloween pictures with watercolor and construction paper. We will add to these next week in art. Our woven hearts are up in the hallways! Check them out…
In P.E. this week, we learned Poisonball! This is a fun version of dodge ball where each person is on their own and trying to be the last person standing!
For Writers’ Workshop, we continued writing Personal Narratives! These stories are really turning out so wonderfully. I am excited to share them with you.
For Computer Lab this week, we worked on our typing program, and started publishing our personal narratives. Some even took their Scholastic quizzes. Please urge your child to read, read, read!
In Music, we are having fun with the recorder! Students reviewed the notes B, A and G. We played “Hot Cross Buns” and learned “A Clair de la Lune”. Next week, we will learn two new notes C and D. The students also began the “Recorder Karate” program. They are very excited! Ask them about it!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Yours in Christ,
Kim Myers
