Happy Valentine's Day!

Third and Fourth Grade News
From the Week of February 14, 2014

Dear Parents,
Happy Valentine’s Day!  We have had such a fun week here at school…getting ready for our student-led conferences and celebrating Valentine’s!  J  Boy, were we nuts today!  It has been great visiting with you the past two evenings.  I love to see your children interact with you…it helps me see them in a different light, which I love.  They are such treasures!
Achievement tests are coming up!  These will be February 24th-28th.  The testing will be in the mornings from 8:30-12:00 every day.
Timothy is also offering an Education Night to any interested families on February 27.  The focus of this night is sex education.  We separate the kids according to age and gender, keeping the students with their parents.  This is meant to help you discuss the changes your child will be (or already is) experiencing in a Christian yet factual manner.  We use materials supplied by CPH, which are available for preview as you determine whether or not your family is interested in attending.  Mrs. Warren has sent and email home regarding this matter.
We have rescheduled Morning with Mom (donuts and fun!) for Wednesday, February 19.  The fun starts at 7:45.  Hope to see you there!!
Below, I have summarized what we have learned this week:
Religion- This week, we discussed the life of David again, and the friendship he had with Jonathan, Saul’s son.  We discussed ways we can witness to our friends…and how David often felt scared and alone, when he was being pursued by Saul.  We discussed Psalm 23 in depth, and this led to a great discussion about memorizing this Psalm for when we need it… what walking through the shadow of death means… I shared a personal story of being with a loved one when she passed away, and how I knew from the look on her face that she was getting ready to enter heaven.  This transpired into so much sharing in here!  Many of the children shared their personal stories, stories of loss, testimonies of faith, and some tears were shed.  I love the family that we all are and that your children are able to share their faith with one another in this way daily!  They are shining examples of Christ!  Thank you for sharing them with me!
Math-We love multiplication!  Third graders have worked with 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.  Next week we will tackle 6-10!  Please continue to work on facts at home!  This helps so much…! Fourth graders are working with multiplying 3-4 digit numbers by one-digit.  Next week, we will test over that and then begin the distributive property.  As a reminder, at the end of the year, we will celebrate all of the students that have memorized their facts with a Winstead’s party.  Weekly now, I will be sending home a form called Math Madness, where they will need to practice their facts at least 5 minutes a night, or 25 minutes a week.  This will be an easy “A” daily math grade!  They can use flash cards, computer games, and rote sayings, whatever, just as long as they are practicing!  Thank you SO much for your help with this!
We did not have new Reading stories or Spelling words next week, but we will next week!
Today, we tested over Chapter 3 in our Missouri History unit.  I will grade those this weekend.  We will take a break then from Missouri History and focus on Science, where we will be studying animal and plant cells.  Study guides will come home next week, that your child can use to review as we trek through the chapter.

Here is what we did in our special classes this week:
Art-Gifts for you!  Heart masterpieces!
Writing-Most of us finished up our partner writing
P.E.-jump roping skills—regular jump, pepper, high waters
Music-We watched a video of our upcoming musical!  Tryouts will be next week during music class.  Practiced the songs’ “We Are,” and “Voice of the Lord”

Upcoming Events:
FEBRUARY
17-President’s Day-no school
24-28-Achievement tests
27-Sex Education Night at 6:30

Have a great LONG weekend!

Yours in Christ,

Kim Brunkhorst
