Third and Fourth Grade
News
From the Week
of February 28, 2014
Dear
Parents,
We have had a great week! I am so proud of the children and their efforts
on our achievement tests! They worked so hard and were very respectful of
each other! Some of the kids were even able to finish their book report
books during their down times. J Today we celebrated
with a party! Yeah!
Jump Rope for Heart is scheduled for next
Thursday, March 6th. We have been practicing jump roping in P.E.
to get ready for this big event! (We have also learned some cool
jump-roping rhymes that you may remember from your childhood!)
During
Religion this week, we talked about what makes God a great King,
(the most AMAZING!) and then what our duties are as citizens of God’s
Kingdom. We divided up into groups and looked up various Bible verses
that gave us our answers. We then created posters and documents that we
shared with the class, as to what we learned! Memory work will pick back
up next week, as well as Spelling, Reading, and
Math!
Science-We continued our study of cells this week and
actually created some of our own! They were messy, but fun! This will
help aide us in learning the different parts. We began learning about
different types of animals this week, such as the vertebrates and
invertebrates. I have been challenging the students to get started on
their study guides. Please urge yours to bring his or her home!
4th
grade shared their book reports and movie posters today!
They are so cool and will be up in the hallway soon. Their next book
report will be over a nonfiction book. They will be building a windsock
with this information. The details are coming home today. 3rd
graders still have a few weeks left before theirs is due: March 14th!
During
Writing this week, we talked about expository papers, and how our
first paper will be about you, MOM! You may have noticed that your child
brought home an interview for you. Please take the time to answer several
questions for your child. I am hoping this leads to come great
conversations! Your child should take short notes and bring them to
school by Thursday, so we can begin working on these. Thank you!
Art
yesterday was so much fun! We read the story “Where the Wild Things Are,”
by Maurice Sendak, and read a cute poem called “One Summer Night,” and then
began creating “monsters” of our own. We will paint these next week,
using shades and tints of one color, and then hang them from the vines on our
jungle classroom. They can just join the wild things that already inhabit
this place! ;)
In
Music, we are continuing to work with the spring musical!
Hopefully, you have heard your child humming some of these catchy tunes!
