Newsletter 3-20-15

Dear Parents,
We have had another great week!  Here are a few reminders about upcoming events:

  • Enrollment forms have been issued to all current students.  Enrollment will open up to new families soon.  Please send your forms back in as soon as possible to reserve your spot for next year.

  • For Trivia Night, our class is sponsoring a STL Cardinals basket.  We are still taking items at any time up until April 10th.  Please sign-up for Trivia Night too!  Get your table now!  Information is outside the school office.

  • This Saturday, March 21st, Timothy Lutheran School has been invited to take place in a special choir and worship event with the Chamber Choir from Trinity Lutheran church in Lisle, IL.  They have invited us to participate in their worship and a concert here at Timothy—the North Campus.  A note went home this week about it.  It is from 3:30-6:00, and then Saturday evening worship at 6:00.  Please let Mrs. Mundt or myself know TODAY if your child is going to be able to come.  Hope you can make it!

·         Our students are going to be going to Harvester’s in April!  We need lots of drivers and parents to help when we’re there.  If you are interested, check out this link.

·         This Wednesday, our students learned about our last mission project of the year—Passion Link!  Notes came home with your child on Wednesday.  Your child will bring in coins for his or her Chapel family, and totals will be calculated each week.  The winning family each week will receive a fun prize!  Our goal is to raise $800!  Here is the fun strategy, though:  Chapel families may place dollar bills of any amount in other Chapel Families’ containers in which the dollar amount will be subtracted from their coin amount!  This makes this so much fun… The game has begun!

Here’s what we have been up to:

In Religion this week we talked about Daniel and the lions, and how he prayed when he was afraid.  We discussed how God delivers us from evil all the time too!

Memory for next week:
March 24-The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,

March 27--was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God
the Father Almighty.

Language Arts: 3rd graders read, Two Bad Ants,” and 4th graders read “The World According to Humphrey.”  Both stories were written from the viewpoint of the insect or animal.  Very interesting!  We also learned about antonyms, synonyms, and homonyms this week.  In cursive this week, we learned u, v, w, and x. Math was fun again this week, as we learned as a whole class!   We studied, polygons, lines, and circles, triangles, quadrilaterals, congruent shapes, lines of symmetry... On St. Patrick’s Day, we took a break and categorized and graphed Lucky Charms.  J  Yum!  We also are working whole-heartedly on our multiplication facts!  We have a few kids that are ready to take the Winstead’s mad minute next week!  Yippee!  Please encourage your child to practice math facts with computer games, flash cards, or just by reciting them.  We discuss all the time the importance of memorizing them.  Fourth grade can testify that once we get up into long division, it is necessary!!!    I will be taking all kids that have memorized theirs to Winstead’s in May for Skyscraper sundaes!

We began Social Studies again this week.  Our unit is focusing in on Native American communities of the past.

Here is what we did during Specials this week:
Art-we continued on our self-portraits of what we want to be when we grow up… We began painting! Music-we practiced our recorders and had Recorder Karate sessions.  The children are really starting to sound beautiful!
P.E.-We learned a game called “Sun Ball.”  Lots of fun!
Writing-We continued on our autobiographical sketches. Many of us are already at the publishing step.  These will be combined in a book that will be copied for each child.  J  We also wrote short stories about a mischievous leprechaun…He sure was up to no good!
