WE SING SUNDAY!
All Students, grades K-8, sing Sunday, January 24, at Timothy’s North Campus (425 NW R.D. Mize Rd).  All students will sing at the beginning of both the 8:30 and 9:45 am services.  Grades 3-8 will sing a second song during the offering of the 8:30 am service only.
Students meet at 8:10 am in the music room for a brief rehearsal.  Our children will sing at the opening of the service, then join their families for worship.  Grades 3-8 will come forward from their seats to sing during the offering (8:30 service only).  We will all reconvene in the lobby at 9:40 am to sing at the beginning of the 9:45 am service.  After we sing, students will be dismissed to join their families in the lobby.  Students grades K-5 are invited to attend “The Rock”, Timothy’s Sunday morning children’s ministry (9;45-10:45 am).
Please wear Timothy gear or school colors (red, navy).  What a great way to kick-off National Lutheran Schools Week!  See you there!

The Book Fair is here!  It will be set up so you can visit this weekend, all next week, and even the following Sunday!

Next Tuesday, January 26th, our school will be holding our Jump Rope for Heart Event—we will be jumping for one hour!  (from 2:15-3:15)  Packets came home last Wednesday that detailed the event, and also had envelopes to collect donations.  Please return the collection envelopes to Mrs. Brunkhorst  by Monday, February 1st.  BE SURE the envelope has you child’s name and information filled out!  Thank you!    Your child can even fundraise on-line!!  Step by step instructions about the simple on-line donation program are provided on the flap of your collection envelope.  Go to www.heart.org/jump and choose our school, Timothy Lutheran School.
All students can participate in this fun event, even if they decide not to raise funds.  It is such a great activity to do with our Chapel Families and to celebrate our Lutheran Schools!  We are learning to take care of this amazing body God has given to us!  Thank you!

Next Tuesday is also Mrs. Carrasco’s birthday, and since she spends so much time in our room this year, we are going to help her celebrate!  I will have cake and punch with her and the children, if you would like to send in cards or gifts.  She is such a treasure to us!

Now that we’re in 2016, we start thinking ahead to next school year.  In just a bit, re-enrollment packets will be coming home with your child.  This is always a good opportunity to get word out to friends and families who are looking for a new school home, too.  We would love to expand our Timothy family!

Memory for the next few weeks has changed, as we have a few songs that we are having trouble learning for NLSW.  Please see below:

We will continue learning the Lord’s Prayer after Lutheran Schools Week.

January 26- Jesus is the Cornerstone, Came for sinners to atone; though rejected by His own, He became the Cornerstone-Jesus is the Cornerstone.

When I am by sin oppressed, On the stone I am at rest, Where the seeds of truth are sown, He remains the Cornerstone, Jesus is the Cornerstone.

February 2- For Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever.  Amen.

February 5- Be able to say the entire Lord’s Prayer.

(The rest of the year will remain the same.  Thank you!)

Here is a rundown on our week:
Religion-we learned about Hannah and her strong faith.

Language Arts/History- We learned all about the stupendous life of Martin Luther King, Jr., by sharing several stories and watching a portion of his “I Have a Dream” speech.  As a reading selection, we read a story called, “Happy Birthday, Dr. King,” and also learned about Rosa Parks.  We discussed cause and effect, as well as pronouns.  We learned cursive e and l this week.  There will not be spelling test or a reading selection test next week.

Math-We are doing well on mad minutes!  Keep studying those facts!   Third grade learned multiplication and division fact families and how to solve word problems with these signs.  Fourth grade is working on long multiplication with 3 and 4 digit numbers.

Science-Please make sure your child is working on Science Fair projects!  The students met with Mrs. Stack on Tuesday to make sure their plans were good to go!  In Science class, we have been learning about the 6 kingdoms, and the different ways to classify living things.  We finished chapter 2 and will focus on finishing the unit next week.  We will have a test on Thursday morning.  Vocab cards and a study guide will come home Monday.

Social Studies-We are up on Current Events with the help of our Scholastic News.  You will see these coming home.  It is a fun way to talk about the news with your child.

Art-We made portraits of Martin Luther King Jr.  They are awesome!

Writers’ Workshop/Computer-We each wrote our own “I Have a Dream” statements.  These will be displayed by our portraits.  We also began alliteration poems.

Music-We are learning about Bach and practicing music for LSW, as well as for Rev. Otte’s installation service.  The children sound beautiful!

P.E.-We learned about jump-roping this week!  We are having fun getting our hearts pumping!
