Newsletter 9/23/16

Hello, Parents!  We have been busy in here!  J  It was great to see many of you at the parade on Saturday!  We had beautiful weather!

Here is what we have been up to:

Religion- We learned how to use the different parts of the Bible, including the Table of Contents, the Bible Atlas, the Concordance, and how to use context clues to find answers to questions.  Today we even tested over the books of the Bible!  I have been trying to explain how each day builds on the other...next week we will begin the New Testament Books!
Next week’s memory:
September 27-
The New Testament
Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
Acts
Romans
1 & 2 Corinthians

September 30-
Galatians
Ephesians
Philippians
Colossians
1 & 2 Thessalonians
1 & 2 Timothy
Titus
Philemon

*Next Wednesday is the last day to collect money for River Roads!  We are on our way with a little over $400 right now!  Nice job!

Language Arts- The third graders read “Pop’s Bridge,” about the building of the San Francisco Bridge, which led to awesome discussions and sharing.  Fourth graders read “How Tia Lola Came to Stay,” and learned how our actions sometimes really affect others.  We also reviewed the differences between sentences and questions.

Math- Third graders have been working with mental math, estimating, rounding, and regrouping.  Fourth graders have been working with rounding to estimate, adding and subtracting with zeroes, and solving word problems.  Mrs. Barnett is out of town for a few weeks, and Mrs. Stack has been helping us with math.  Thank you, Mrs. Stack, for stepping in!  The kiddos are so excited to see her more this week!

Social Studies- We finished up getting ready for School of Economics this week!  We finished up signs and passports, priced our items in order to hopefully pay off our loans, and learned how to write checks.  We are having a lot of fun!

P.E.- This week in P.E. we played a volleyball scrimmage game and learned how to rotate on the court.  We also learned a new game called “Scatter!”  We are really learning and focusing on good sportsmanship and what it means to be a team player.

Art- We watched a video with hot air balloons and also looked at some beautiful pictures, before we completed drawings of our own.  We then painted these using the mixing skills that we learned last week!  These beautiful hot air balloons will be floating in the hallway soon!

Music- All of the students learned the Old Testament and New Testament songs and practiced rounds this week.  We also worked on a song entitled “Thrive,” which all choirs will be singing in a special church service on October 30th.  Third grade practiced our song for this Sunday and completed a sheet where the students needed to draw the notes and know their values.  Fourth grade was a rhythm band for “Stars and Stripes Forever,” by Sousa, and also practiced “Amazing Grace” for when they sing in church on October 16th

Third grade— WE SING IN CHURCH THIS SUNDAY!
Grades K-3 sing Sunday, September 25, at the NORTH CAMPUS (425 NW R.D. Mize Road) during the 8:30 am service.  Students meet in the Sanctuary near the piano at 8:20 am.  Students will sit together until we sing.  We will sing during the offering.  After we sing, children will join their families for the remainder of the service.  We sing again at the very beginning of the 9:45 am service.  Students will be dismissed immediately after singing.  We should be finished by 9:50 am.  Please wear Timothy gear (with pants or a skirt) or church dress clothes (no shorts or jeans, please).  Every voice is important.  We hope to see you there!

Writers’ Workshop- This week, we finished our 'I Poems" and began publishing them...  We also continued on stories.  Next week we will begin to write personal narratives.  We will read several samples, and then begin the drafting process of our experiences.  We will work on these for the next few weeks, going through the entire writing process…

Other News:
*Yearbooks are finally in!  We will have a signing after Chapel next Wednesday and then, if you ordered one, your child will be bringing it home in the afternoon.  J

*If you would like to help generate money to put toward School of Economics, please sign up to work a home volleyball game!  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4dadab2da7f58-home

* Today is the middle of the quarter!  We will be sending home mid-term reports on Tuesday, September 27th.  This is not a permanent grade at all, but just merely to let you know how your child is doing so far this quarter.  Once you receive these, please sign and return the bottom portion.  Everyone has been working so very hard!
