*Just a reminder that grades 4th-8th sings at the north campus on April 23 - that’s not this Sunday but next.

*Cinco de Mayo night update - Mrs. Carrasco has asked that the kids arrive at 6:45 that evening.  They will meet in their classrooms.

Here is what we have been up to:
In Religion this week, we have discussed Holy Week—Jesus in the temple, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday.  We have also been discussing the power of God’s name, and how we should call upon it ALWAYS.  Yesterday, we listened to the song, “Watch the Lamb” by Ray Boltz.  It takes the man Simon, that was told to carry the cross for Jesus, and extends his character, and also tells the story of Jesus death on the cross.  I did not show the YouTube video that accompanies the song to the students, because it can be rather graphic, but I promised them that I would share it with you, in case you wanted to watch/listen as a family.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNT1AThOgME

For Math this week, both groups worked with fractions!  Third graders tested over equivalent fractions and parts of a whole.  We will begin measurement after Easter break.  Fourth graders have been finding least common multiples, adding fractions, and working with mixed numbers.  They will work with decimals next week.  3rd and 4th grades--Please continue practicing math facts at home.  We have really been focusing on this at school.  We will take our trip to Winstead’s after school on May 17th to celebrate with skyscraper sundaes!  We will be testing like crazy for the next 4 weeks!

During Language Arts/ Writing this week, we learned quite a few new cursive capital letters, and finished working on our descriptions.  These will come home at the end of next week for you to enjoy too!  We will continue with Reading selections and Spelling words next week.

In Science, we have begun learning about the life cycles of plants and animals.  Next week, we will have a hands-on (with gloves) study of the parts of the flower, and of pine cones.  If you have any pine cones that you can donate, it would be much appreciated!  Thank you!

During Music and Spanish—We have been practicing our Cinco de Mayo songs and dances!  The students sound and look wonderful! One that we are having some trouble with is:  “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”
Here are the words, if your kiddo can practice at home:
Y todo el mundo esta en sus manos  (the whole world) (repeat 3 x) Pues todo fue hecho por el.
El tiene el aire y la lluvia (wind & rain) en sus manos ’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’
El tiene a todos los pequenos (all the children) in sus manos “”””””””’
El tien a mis padres y abuelos (moms & dads, grandpas and grandma) “””””””””””””””
El tiene a toda su creacion (creation) en sus manos””””””””””

During P.E., we are still focusing on Presidential Physical Fitness.  This week we worked on the v-sit, and the ½ mile run.  We will still work on this a bit after break!

During Art, this week, we created Easter crosses for you and for our shut-in friends!

Have a blessed Easter!  I hope you are able to enjoy relaxing time with family and friends.  Please reach out to someone you know may be alone for this holiday….I am praying for all of you!
Blessings,
Kim
