Busy, busy, busy...

Dear 4th Grade Parents,
It has been a great week!  It is so hard to believe that it is already the last day of the first quarter!  Whew!  Where did the time go?  Thank you for signing up for conferences.  I look forward to visiting with each one of you.  It has been such a blessing to me to be the teacher of each one of these children!
 Updates/Reminders:
*Fourth grade students have until Tuesday to turn-in any late work and do any corrections for 1st quarter.  I changed that as of today.  Some of them needed some extra time!

*THANK YOU to all those that supported Timothy’s WALK-A-THON.  Our school raised $7,604.03 for our playground expansion!  Way to go, Rams!  This is amazing!

*We will be having our Fall Harvest Party out at my in-laws, next Friday, on October 26th, from 9:30-12:30!  Please send $3.00 and a sack lunch with your child.  If you can drive, and/or send in snacks, please sign-up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4dadab2da7f58-fall1

*We have a very special morning coming up - Donuts with Dad!  The morning of Wednesday, November 7, come to school between 7:45-8:20 for breakfast with a special guest!  (Bring dad, grandpa, or the guest of your choice!)  In addition to donuts, coffee, and milk, teachers will have an activity for students to complete with their special guests.  This is not a mandatory event for your child to attend, but it’s awfully fun to make memories together and start our Wednesday off on a fun note!  We hope to see you there!  (Guests are also more than welcome to stay for chapel at 9:00!)

*TLS AUCTION – TIMOPOLY  is quickly approaching!!  Set your calendars for Saturday, November 10 and join us for some fun!  There are many ways to support Timothy Lutheran School’s auction.  This is our largest fundraiser of the year and provides vital funding for our school.  Check out our website for detailed information, to make a donation, or to purchase tickets head to  www.timothylutheranschool.com.

*Did you see Mrs. Anderson’s email with the school spirit wear ordering site?  We also sent home reminders yesterday, with a link to the store.  (Look in purple folders!)  Please note the ordering deadline is Sunday, October 21.  It’s not too early to start thinking of Christmas presents for your child or their grandparents!

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion- This week, we finished up chapter 2 by discussing  Moses and the 10 Commandments.  We had a wonderful discussion yesterday about the commandments with in the context of our own lives.  They had many questions, and we had some very adult, in-depth discussions about sin, about temptation, and about forgiveness.  I was also able to lead Chapel this week.  We discussed  "honoring our fathers and mothers," as well as how to follow God's command in our lives to be obedient to Him.  I invited my parents to come and be a part of the object lesson, which was fun!  I shared some family pictures as part of the lesson, and I posted some below...mostly because they just make me giggle and smile.  :)  Next week, we will take a break from our Religion books, to learn about the Reformation and Martin Luther.

Memory for next week:
October 23-What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so we do not curse, swear, use satanic arts, lie, or deceive by His name, but call upon it in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks.
October 26-THE THIRD COMMANDMENT
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

Language Arts- This week, we read the tall tale, “Stormalong,” about a sailor named Alfred Bulltop Stormalong.  This was a tall tale about him, the White Cliffs of Dover, and why seamen, first class, wear an A.B.S. after their names.  ;)  This was a very clever story and fun to read.   Next week, we will begin reading the chapter book “Dear Mr. Henshaw” by our Author of the Month, Beverly Cleary.  We will not have spelling words next week.  We will also have some time in class to read book report books, so please make sure these are sent to school.  Thank you!

Math- This week, we worked with multiplication fact families, and multiplication word problems using variables for the unknown.  Please continue to work with your child at home on his or her facts—flash cards are the best!

Science – This week, we learned about and studied cells, both plant and animal.  We learned some new vocabulary words, and worked on our cell murals.

SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We worked on making informational murals of plant and animal cells—labeled parts and all!
Writing- We worked on our personal narratives.  We shared the beginning of them in Readers’ Theatre.
P.E.-We played Dr. Dodgeball this week!  Fun!
