4th Grade DOES Rock!

Hi, 4th grade parents!  We had a fun week, with a surprise Snow Day gift on Wednesday!  FUN and CRAZINESS is getting ready to descend upon us, so please hold on tight!  ;)

Upcoming Events:
*We have a basketball-filled weekend with games at Calvary tomorrow night and at Hope on Sunday afternoon.  The weather has not been our friend regarding basketball, but this will get all of our games “in!”

*Lutheran Schools Week begins Sunday!  (January 27th-February 3rd)
To kick off the celebration, WE SING in church THIS SUNDAY!
When:  Sunday, January 27, 10:30 am Service
Meet in the auditorium at 10:00 am.
Where:  Wyatt Road (School) Campus
What to Wear:  Timothy Gear or School Colors (navy/red)
What:  Students will sing, a photo slideshow will be displayed, students will help lead parts of the service.
Come celebrate with us!
Monday (1/28)-Each Chapel Family picked a fun way to dress that day—ask your kiddo what that is!  They all took part in the voting!  In the afternoon, we will be finding out about our 3rd quarter mission project, Community Linc.  Mr. Dan Barber will be here to give us details.  Be on the lookout for that!
Tuesday (1/29)-We are dressing like we are going to our favorite place.  In the afternoon, we were going to go out and serve in the community, by going to Benton House to play games with their residents.  However, we just got an email yesterday, that they had to quarantine their building because of the amount of sickness there.  Instead, we will go there in February to serve.  In its place, we are going to clean parts of our school building that REALLY need some scrubbing and help… We are going to scrub the bleachers, wash windows and walls, and do some sweeping and mopping!  This will give the kiddos some ownership in their building too!   Thanks!
Wednesday (1/30)-We are dressing like our favorite person, or future job.  In the afternoon we are making cards and pictures for service members, shut-ins, and other people in our community.  If you know or have a loved one that is an active service member, or a first responder, or a shut-in, please send us their name and address, and we will make them cards too!  THANK YOU!
Thursday (1/31)-We are dressing in our favorite decade!  In the afternoon, we are having a celebration of dance, song, food, and prayer!
Friday (2/1)-Dress Your Best!  It is Grandparents’ Day our Talent Show!  12:30 dismissal!
Sunday-(2/3)-Kindergarten-8th grades will sing at the 8:00 and 9:30 services at the R.D. Mize campus.  Older students will help out with the service.

*The 100th Day of School is next Wednesday!  Your child does not need to bring anything extra to school…the fun will be here for them!  ;)

*Book reports are due next Thursday, January 31st.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion-We learned about when Elijah went to heaven on the chariot of fire and are now learning about the prophet Elisha.  Today, we had a mature conversation about death, and what happens to our souls and to our bodies when we pass away.
Memory for next week:
January 29-For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things.   Let Your holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen.
*We won’t have memory on Friday.

Reading-This week we read the story, “Happy Birthday, Dr. King,” which shared the stories about Rosa Parks and MLK.  This book taught us an important lesson about remembering the past, and learning from it.
*There won’t be spelling words next week.

Math-This week, we tested over Chapter 5 and reviewed long subtraction and short division.  Next week, we will work with long division.  They are ready!

Social Studies-We learned more about MLK and Rosa Parks this week.  We also continued our studies about Missouri, learning about its climate and weather.  The weather outside is frightful… ;)

Science-We handed in our testable questions and hypotheses this week!  All documents are also available here: http://timothylutheransciencefair.jmstack.com

Art-We learned began winter collages in the art form of Eric Carle.

Writing- We worked on our own “I Have a Dream” ideas.

P.E.-We played Pac Man!

Music-We practiced songs for the Talent Show/Grandparents’ Day!
