Dear Parents,
It’s
been another fun-filled week!
Upcoming Events:
*Our games are canceled with Trinity Lutheran, Atchison, KS,
this evening. So far, our games with St.
Paul’s, St. Joseph, MO, are still on. I
will let families know tomorrow by 7:00 a.m.
Thank you.
*Report cards came home today! Please check your child’s Friday Folder! Just a reminder: It is now second semester,
so final work grades are final. Your
child can always redo their work, (this is always helpful to relearn and
practice!) but will not receive ½ credit for doing so.
*We will not have school on Monday, January 21st,
in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
*Lutheran Schools Week January 27th-February
3rd) is quickly approaching!
Notes came home yesterday, so if you have not seen it, please ask your
kiddo, as it is full of details! Here is
the rundown:

sing at the 10:30 service at the Wyatt Road campus (this building!) Older
students will help out with the service.
Monday (1/28)-Each Chapel Family picked a fun way to
dress that day. It is indicated in your
note. In the afternoon, we will be finding
out about our 3rd quarter mission project, Community Linc. Mr. Dan Barber will be here to give us
details. Be on the lookout for
that!
Tuesday (1/29)-We are dressing like we are going to
our favorite place. In the afternoon, we
will go out and serve in the community.
We are planning a trip to Benton House to play games and read books with
the members there. (More details to
come!)
Wednesday (1/30)-We are dressing like our favorite
person, or future job. In the afternoon
we are making cards and pictures for service members, shut-ins, and other
people in our community.
Thursday (1/31)-We are dressing in our favorite
decade! Have some fun with this! In the afternoon, we are having a celebration
of dance, song, food, and prayer!
Friday (2/1)-Dress Your Best! It is Grandparents’ Day our Talent Show! 12:30 dismissal!
Sunday-(2/3)-Kindergarten-8th grades will
sing at the 8:00 and 9:30 services at the R.D. Mize campus. Older students will help out with the
service.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion-This week, we have been learning about
Elijah and the prophets of Baal. We
discussed putting God first in our lives, and how sometimes we don’t do this, and
have idols of different forms. We also
learned about each petition of the Lord’s Prayer and tested over those
today.
Memory for next week:
January 22- Luther’s Morning Prayer: I thank You, my Heavenly
Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night
from all harm and danger;
January 25- and I pray You to protect me this day also from
sin and every evil, that all my doings and; life may please You.
Reading/Social Studies-This week we read the story
about Martin Luther King, Jr., entitled “My Brother Martin,” written by his
sister, Christine Farris King. We read
several stories about him this week, and our spelling words connected with our
story too! We had some very mature conversations
about segregation, discrimination, justice, and equality. We played a game where the kids had to
discuss whether scenarios were “just” or “unjust.” Thank you for reading with your students at
home, and having these discussions as well.
Next week, we will read a fictional story entitled, “Happy Birthday, Dr.
King,” which will focus more on the bus
boycotts.
Spelling words for next week, Friday, January 25th:
(from "Happy Birthday, Dr. King!)
peaceful, protest, boycott, civil rights, dream, equality,
freedom, movement, treatment, kindness, *stupendous
Math- This week we worked with word problems using longer
multiplication. Today we reviewed this unit
(Unit 5), and we will test over it on Tuesday.
Science-We met with Mrs. Stack again this week. She just touched base with the students about
picking a testable question, and forming a hypothesis about this question. It can be anything! She provided the students with some
guidance. Please have your child check
out the Science Fair website to help. All
documents are also available here: http://timothylutheransciencefair.jmstack.com
They will need to have this question and hypothesis by next Wednesday. (Paperwork is in the Homework Folders).
Art-We learned how to paint portraits, studied some
photographs of MLK, and then painted him.
Writing- We watched a recording of Martin Luther
King, Jr.’s famous speech on YouTube. We then wrote our own “I Have a Dream”
ideas.
P.E.-We played Video Game Madness!
Music-we practiced songs for the Talent
Show/Grandparents’ Day!
