Happy Friday!

Dear Parents,
It’s been a busy week!  The BEST news of the week—Our friend Maslyn has rejoined our class!  We are so happy that she is back with us again, and praise God for this wonderful blessing!  Welcome back, Maslyn!!!

Here are some approaching events:
*With bad weather heading our way, our basketball games are canceled for this weekend.  We will be rescheduling games with St. Paul’s and with Our Savior.  I will get those dates to you very soon.

*Today is the end of the 2nd quarter!  Can you believe it!  We dismiss at 1:00, so teachers can work on grade cards.  These will be coming home next Friday.

*We met with Mrs. Stack this week, (Mrs. Science Extraordinaire!) and are beginning to work on our Science Fair projects!  The Science Fair is set for March 8th, but if you have not already, please sign and return the permission slip that came home on Wednesday.  This just assures us all that we are on the same page.  Thank you!

*Lutheran Schools Week is approaching!  We will have a Talent Show on Friday of that week!  Would your child like to do something for that?  If so, talent show try-outs are just around the corner – next Wednesday, January 16th, after school, from 3:45-5:00.  We will have 4/5/6 BB players go first.  Please send in the form if they are coming.  Thank you.

*During LSW, the students will also be singing both the Sunday before the week of festivities, as well as the Sunday after it (January 27 and February 3).  Each day of the week (January 28-February 1), we have special dress days and activities planned, so look for that information to come out SOON!  Grandparents Day/Talent Show Day is the last day of Lutheran Schools Week - Friday, February 1.  We will have a 12:30 dismissal that day.

* Exciting news! You can save money on next year's tuition! With “SCRIP Online” 50% of what the school receives from you goes toward tuition for your child. Visit https://www.shopwithscrip.com/ for online information. To get the enrollment code send Steve Patton an email at stevep@timothylutheran.com.

Here is what we have been up to this week:
Religion-This week, we have been learning about King David, and although he was a great servant of God, he was also a sinner in need of God’s grace.  We shared ways that we are definitely similar to David.  We also discussed his son, Solomon, and the beautiful temple Solomon build for God.  We talked about God’s presence there and in our lives.

Memory for next week:
January 15- Be able to say the entire Lord’s Prayer.
January 18-For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. ~1 Corinthians 12:12

Reading-This week we read the story about Romare Bearden, the collage artist, in the story “Me and Uncle Romie.”  We loved this story!  We also learned all about idioms.  Next week, we will learn about Martin Luther King, Jr.

*Spelling words for next week, Friday, January 18th:
(from “My Brother Martin”) west, steep, member, gleam, fresh, freedom, speed, steam, beast, believe, speck, kept, cheap, pretend, greed, shelf, least, eager, reason, chief, echo, menu, *segregation

Math- This week in math, we have really used our noggins!  The 4th graders have learned how to multiply 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.  We have been working on this skill ALL week, and some have really struggled, but NOW, I think we all have mastered this!  Multiplication is FUN!

Social Studies-We are knee-deep in Missouri History again!  This week, we learned all about the equator, the prime meridian, the hemispheres, the continents, and about our great country, and MISSOURI!  We learned about the different regions of Missouri and what you can find there, and the fact that we live in the Western Plains.  We will learn many new facts about our climate and weather next week.  (This weekend is a perfect example!)

Art-We cut out snowflake snowmen this week, and they are inhabiting our hallway.  J

Writing-We finished up our persuasive essays this week and began lists of our favorite things.

P.E.-We finished up our basketball unit by using ALL of our skills.

Music-we practiced songs for the Talent Show/Grandparents’ Day!
