Another crazy week...

Hello, Parents!  What?  It’s March?!  Another week with another snow day…when will this winter end?!  I hope you were able to enjoy some fun, family time with your loved ones.  We have been busy, despite the breaks!

Important News:
*THANK YOU all for your help in raising funds for Community Linc!  As a school, we raised $654.15 to help our brothers and sisters in need.  Praise the Lord!  We had so much fun with this friendly competition.  The girls were able to “out bill” the boys and will be picking the school-wide party very soon!  We will keep you updated!  God is good!

*Morning with Mom is next Wednesday, March 6th, from 7:45-8:20.  Please come and join us!  Chapel begins at 9:00, if you’d like to stay and join us for that too!

*Our Science Fair is next Friday, March 8th!  Please have your child bring his or her completed project to school on Friday.  Mrs. Stack will be by the door to direct them where to place them.  Then, that afternoon, please come to the fair!  All the 3rd-6th graders have been working very hard on their inquiry based science projects, and our 7th-8th graders have created or invented projects using re-purposed materials.  All projects will be judged during the school day.  The fair will be from 3:45-5:00.  We are SO excited!

*On Friday, March 15th, we will be traveling to Coterie Theatre, located inside Crown Center, 2450 Grand Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64108, to see the play “Mr. Popper's Penguins.”  This is the play based on the book we are reading in class by Richard and Florence Atwater.  We will leave school at 8:45 and return by 12:00, just in time for lunch!  We will need several drivers for this field trip!  All tickets, students and parents, are $5.50.  I have paid for this in full, so please send in cash or checks addressed to me.  Please look at the sign-up, even if you cannot attend.  There is a space for you to sign-up your kiddo to go.  Thank you!  I have reserved 20 seats for us.  :)

*Track is right around the corner!  Grades 4th-8th grade are invited to participate!  Our first practice is Tuesday, March 19th, from 3:45-5:00.

*A FUN fundraising night is coming up!  Mark your calendars for Friday, March 22, and come to our annual Trivia Night (this year has a superhero theme!).  Tickets will be going on sale soon for either $20/person or $150 table.  (Don’t have a whole table?  No worries!  We can find a table for you and you can meet some new friends.)  Our 7th/8th Grade students often use this night to work the concessions stand and raise money toward their class trip.  We would love for you to come, AND if you would be willing to help with ticket sales, here is a sign-up genius for you to sign up and help: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080A4EA4AB22A57-trivia

Spring Musical - kids are working hard preparing for our performance of “Go, Go Jonah!” (based on the Bible story of Jonah and the whale).  We have a few weeks of preparations yet before the kids share their production on Friday, April 12 (6:30 start time).  We will have many more details emerge as this date draws nearer, but as far as costuming goes, we will need students to EVENTUALLY bring in a white t-shirt that we will be tie-dying as part of your child’s costume for that night.  (The details of our all-school tie-dye party will be announced when we pick a day for the fun… which is also when they’ll need to bring in their shirt!)  Will your child need to bring this in right now?  Nope!  But if you have an extra white shirt on hand that you’re willing to be altered OR if you want to begin discussing splitting a three-pack of shirts with some friends, you can at least begin thinking of some options.

Here is what we have been up to:
Religion- We have been learning about Jesus’ birth, childhood, and John the Baptist preparing the way for Him.  Our job is to also prepare the way for the Lord by sharing His Good News!

We had a very in-depth, heart-to-heart discussion during Religion yesterday about social media and the dangers that are out there.  They will cover this more in depth in the upper grades, but we just talked about some of the negative items out there on YouTube, and other venues, that are scary, dangerous, and not for young eyes.  I know many of you have already, but can you continue this discussion at home?  There is something circulating on YouTube right now that I did not know about, and the kiddos in here have informed me about it…  I have asked them to PLEASE be cautious about what they watch and what they talk about at school.  This kind of information should not be shared with younger kiddos or younger siblings because it just peaks an interest that should not be there.  Thank you for your help with this matter!  If you have any questions, please let me know!

Memory for next week:
March 5-Recite the entire Apostle’s Creed.

March 8-What a Friend We Have in Jesus
What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!

Language Arts-We shared mystery book reports this week and the kiddos did a fantastic job!  We also read the story, “Own and Mzee,” the true story of a friendship between an orphaned hippo and a tortoise.  There were a lot of “Oh’s” and “Awww’s” as we shared this in class!  Information about the March book reports came home today.

Spelling Words for Friday, March 8th: (from Moon Runner)
unused, refresh, dislike, replace, unpaid, redo, disorder, unplanned, distrust, rewind, untrue, unload, recall, displease, uneven, rebuild, restart, uncover, untidy, discolor, disband, rearrange, *omnipresent

Math-This week, our division got longer, as we learned where to place the first digit, and drag down more numbers.  This skill will be mastered soon!  Noggins are getting smarter in this 4th Grade Land!  Please keep practicing with your child at home on his or her multiplication facts!

Science-We have continued with Chapter 2 in our Science books this week, and have learned all about vertebrates and classifying animals.  Still working on that Science project?  Please don’t forget to check here for help and details:

Art-We painted winter snowstorm paintings with crayon and tempera paint!  Check them out in the hallway.

P.E.-This week, we exercised our different sets of muscles by playing Captain Cardio Tag!

Music-We are working on our songs for our upcoming musical, “Go, Go, Jonah!”
