Hello! It has been a fun week!
Here are a few announcements:
*As a reminder, Friday Folders will come home this afternoon filled with graded work. Please empty these and return the folder on Monday. Except for tests and papers that are already an “A”, anything with a letter grade can be “redone” for half credit per answer, and turned back in on Monday. So far, everybody is doing very well and working very hard!

Language Arts-
3rd-We learned all about the courtroom, a fair trial, and a jury this week by reading “The Trial of Cardigan Jones.” We all loved this story and giggled quite a bit!
4th grade-We read the super-fun story “Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude.” This is what is called a fractured fairy tale, which is based on old fairytales, but changed up! The kids LOVED this story! There was a lot of laughter in here!
As a whole class, we also reviewed how to write complete sentences, making sure it had a noun,
verb, and was a complete thought. We talked about how to write sentences in 3rd/4th grade style, with more detail. Next week, 3rd graders will read the story from the reading book entitled, “Destiny’s Gift.” Fourth graders are going to begin Literature Circles! As a 4th grade class, they are going to read “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.” There will not be a reading test on this until September 27th. However, there will be a spelling test all Fridays, (13th, 20th, and 27th) over common words found in the story. We are excited!
Spelling Words for the Week of September 13th:
3rd grade-from “Destiny’s Gift”--lay, real, trail, sweet, today, dream, seem, tea, treat, afraid, leave, bait, screen, speed, yesterday, explain
Challenge Word: embarrassed
4th grade-from Chapters 1-4 of “Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing”
announced, stomach, reptiles, hollered, slurping, accident, brilliant, mugged, imitate, ceiling
Challenge Word: embarrassed
Math- This week, both groups worked with ordering numbers, using place value to round, and solving word problems. Next week, we will continue on this chapter. Mrs. Krekel is going to work with 3rd graders twice a week in math, and I am so thankful for her help! This will give the students more of an individualized time with a teacher during this subject that is constantly building as each lesson progresses. When we finish up this chapter, we will begin reviewing adding and subtracting whole numbers. Please continue to work on your child’s math facts at home! Flash cards are the best!
Social Studies- We are learning so much about our amazing state! The students had their first history homework assignment given to them this week--and it’s a fun one! Your child is to interview a Missourian, preferably someone older than themselves. They have the questionnaire with all the topics, and have practiced a bit at school. They can interview you, a grandparent, a neighbor, or a friend, over the phone or in person...just someone who has resided or still resides in Missouri. :) We will learn so much from these interviews--I am excited! They are due on Friday, September 13th.
SPECIAL CLASSES
Art- We learned what a horizon line was and studied some Expressionistic artists. We then created landscape drawings with a horizon line. Next week, we will study primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, create a color wheel with tempera paint, and then begin painting in our horizon pictures.
Writing- We heard a story entitled “Ralph Tells a Story,” which is a cute book about the writing process. After this, we began writing our own fiction stories. We also shared our Summer Vacation stories. I LOVE to see the imaginations these kiddos have!
P.E.-This week we worked on volleyball skills—passing and serving. We will put these skills together next week for some fun drills and game situations!
It was another fun week in 3rd/4th Grade Land! All of the students are working hard and having fun!
God’s Blessings,
