Smells Like Spring!

Hello, parents!  We have had a fun week!
(Please don’t forget to spring forward this weekend!)  ;)

 Upcoming Fun:
*DOOR HANGER PARTY—and then, let’s fly some kites!
Join us Saturday, March 7, 9:00-11:00 am, for a door hanger party!  We have many new neighbors in our area.  We want to spread the word about our school and we need your help.  Meet at school at 9:00 am to help deliver door hangers to nearby homes.  Then, it is supposed to be phenomenal weather for kite flying!  Mrs. Nowiszewski , our Care Minister, is purchasing some kites and gliders so we can fly them in our fields.  You can use some of these, or bring your own and join in the fun!

*After the door hanger distribution, stop back by school for Timothy’s LIVE WELL EVENT (10:00 am – 2:00 pm).  Several community organizations, including KC Wolf, will be in attendance.  Stop by and check it out!

*SPECIAL CHOIR CONCERT – March 13
The choir from St. Paul’s Lutheran High School will perform a special concert for our school Friday morning.  They will perform the concert in its entirety on Friday evening (7pm) at the R.D. Mize Campus.  TLS Alumni, Christian Anderson, is in the choir.  You won’t want to miss it.

*TRIVIA NIGHT – March 27 6-9pm
Teams of eight players join in a fun Trivia competition.  Gather a team of friends and come join the fun!  Ticket sales begin this weekend.  We could use some help behind the scenes.  Use this link to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040F4AACA62DA6FC1-trivia.

*We will have a Springtime Open house on April 2nd, from 6:00-7:00.  If you know of anyone who would love to come to Timothy, please pass this on!

*It was so wonderful to see you at Mornings with Mom!  We had a lot fun!  Thanks for coming!

Here is what we have been learning about this week:
Religion- We have learned about Nicodemus visiting with Jesus, and how he taught him about being reborn in Christ.  We have a wonderful message about John 3:16, and what it means to be a believer.

Memory for next week-
3/10-
Sing Alleluia! Amen!
Let your prayers and your praises ascend.
Lift up your voices and sing to our Lord God, our Savior, our King!
Here brought together by grace, we are gathered as friends in this place.

3/13-
And assembled as one, in the name of the Son,
lifting hearts, lifting hands, celebrating as friends,
and proclaiming the Lord, all our praises afford.
We are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Language Arts- This week, we read the first half of Invisible Stanley!  This is such a fun story!  We began Literature Circles, and I think the students are benefiting from them so much!  They have been having amazing discussions about the characters, and plot, as well as making predictions about the end of the book.  We will continue in these groups next week, as we finished up the book.  Next week, the students will have new jobs within their groups.

We continued to work with our friendly letter skills, and have sent our Flat People home to get mailed off!  Thank you for help with this! Have fun with this adventure!

Spelling Words for next Friday, March 13th:
(This is a whole-class story and spelling words)
From “Invisible Stanley:”
applause, audience, inspect, jealous, jostle, chocolate, sneakers, regular, robber, skillet, *deceit

Math- Third graders worked on multiplying and dividing by 8 and 9.   Fourth graders learned the Order of Operations (Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally!) and have been practicing, practicing, practicing multi-step problems and how to decode them.

Science- Today Mrs. Stack came to introduce the Science Fair, which will be May 1st.  A handout is coming home with your student today.  I have also attached it.  Please sign this and return it to school by next Friday.  The kiddos are SO very excited, and so am I!  Please check out this website for some guidance.  We will  help your child come up with ideas and expand on them, but this site that she created will help so much too!   http://timothylutheransciencefair.jmstack.com/

Social Studies-In Missouri History, we divided the earth into hemispheres, and were able to label the 8 states that border Missouri.  We also discussed the different regions in Missouri.

Art- We made beautiful butterflies out of watercolors, coffee filters, pipe cleaners, and clothespins!  They are flying around our classroom!  ;)

Writing-We are busy working on persuasive essays, revising, editing, and publishing!

P.E.- This week, we learned how to play kickball!  We went outside… :)

Computer Lab-We were able to visit the computer lab twice this week to publish our narratives!  Whoopee!  We are so THANKFUL for the gift of new laptops!
