Happy Weekend!

Hi, parents!  It has been another fun week!  This weather has been SO wonderful for us!

Please see this message from Mr. Holland:

Dear TLS Families,

It takes all of us to reduce the spread of COVID-19. If your child starts displaying symptoms of any kind, you may find it helpful to reference the Jackson County Health Department’s “Can my child go to school today?” flow chart. This flow chart is used to help determine if, when, and how long an ill student needs to stay home from school.

If someone in your student’s class tests positive for COVID-19, you will be notified. If your student is directly exposed to a positive case, you will be notified, and given a date your student may return to school following their quarantine. If you have questions regarding COVID-19 procedures, please call school.

Don’t forget to follow @TimothyLutheranSchool on Facebook and for the most up to date information.

Sincerely,

Ken Holland

Principal

***Our Walk-A-Thon was a success!  THANK YOU to all of our walkers, volunteers, and generous donators!  Students and teachers walked a whopping 1, 896 laps!  Woohoo!  Praise the Lord!  Students and parents, please make sure donations are in by October 9th.  Please keep your student’s donation sheet until all donations are collected, and turn them all in together.  These will be counted after October 9th, and then we will let you know our total!  Again, thank you!  God bless!

*First quarter conferences are coming up on October 29th and October 30th!  Conferences will either be a Zoom conference or an in-person conference.  Please choose what is best for your family.  Here is the sign-up:

*Our fall party is Friday, October 30th, here at school.  I will plan some fun outdoor and indoor activities.  I will just need some students to bring in treats!  If you are able to help, please sign-up!  Thank you! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C4DADAB2DA7F58-fall3

In Religion, we have begun to learn all about Martin Luther and Reformation.  We learned how we are saved by Grace, Faith, and Word ALONE!  There is nothing we can do to earn God’s Love.  It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that we have faith.  We will dig more into Martin’s life the next few weeks too!

Memory work for next week is:

10/6- Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.

10/9-Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fear relieved;  How precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed.

In Language Arts, third graders read a story entitled, “Max's Words,” which is about a boy who collects words.  Then, both 3rd and 4th grade practiced their sentence structure and created sentences using words found in magazines.  It was fun!

Fourth graders read “Coming Distractions: Questioning Movies,” which was a very informative piece about the hidden messages in movies and how they use movies to advertise.  We learned so much!    4th graders also shared their first book reports and they were fantastic!  The “new” book covers hanging in the hall!

They also got their book report information about their second report.  (They picked out their books today.) They need to read a book with an animal as the main character and make a Hamburger Book Report.  It will make sense when they bring the paperwork home.  :) Third graders need to read a mystery book and have their reports completed by October 14th!  SOON!!!

We learned the cursive letters j, I, and u this week.

We discussed what makes a complete sentences and practiced writing them.

 Special Classes

During Art , we finished up our fall landscape projects and they are beautiful.  We also continued on our parade pictures, using the knowledge we gained about “depth” in an illustrations.

In P.E. this week, we played Pin Dodgeball , which is a variation of Dodge Ball.  What fun!

For Writers’ Workshop, we began our personal narratives.  Each child began writing about a personal experience he or she has had.  They will go through the entire writing process with it.  I get so excited to read these.... :)

For Computer Lab this week, we again published our BioPoems.  They are doing well.  Please urge your child to use the "home keys."

In Music this week, the kiddos are practicing songs for our Veterans’ Day recording.

In Spanish, the students are learning words for telling time, clothing, and family members.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Blessings,

Kim Brunkhorst
