Happy Friday!

(So you think this shows seriousness?! Fun times in 3rd/4th grades!)

Hi, 3rd/4th Grade Parents.  :)  It has been another wonderful week. The weather was beautiful and we spend a lot of time outside!

*Our big news this week, is that we got a new “smart board,” called a ClearTouch.  I am still figuring out specifics, but it is AMAZING!  ;)  We are so thankful!

*Next week, we will have an NLSA (National Lutheran Schools Accreditation) team visiting.  Long story short, this was supposed to happen in April 2020, and it is finally happening.  (All of our hard preparatory work is paying off!) They will be here next Tuesday and Wednesday observing and taking notes about our awesome school!  :)

*Our school’s spring musical is coming up soon—Friday, April 30th at 6:30!  Mark your calendars!  Update: Plans are still in motion for our kids to perform our spring musical in our school gym.  Students should wear their "Sent to Serve" red shirts and dark pants or jeans. Due to space requirements, there will only be two guests per student allowed to attend.

*As our 4th Quarter gets underway, we want to let you know that YEARBOOKS ARE ON SALE!  Order now at inter-state.com/flyerentry/56423NK.  The deadline to order is 05/28/2021.  Yearbooks will either be mailed to you or hand delivered at the start of next school year.  Paper reminders are coming home today.

*We heard all about our 4th quarter mission project today!  We are going to give monetary support of a group called Lead A Child.  This organization helps to “share the Good News of Jesus’ love to children through Christian education in third world countries.” https://www.leadachild.org/ The kiddos set our classroom goal: Raise $240!

*If you have full-sized brown paper bags lying around at home, we could really use them at school for our upcoming book report projects.  Thank you!

Here is what we have learned this week:

Religion- This week, we have been discussing why we should pray, why God’s children obey him, and how faith affects families.  We have had some wonderful discussions about faith and how we should honor and respect our parents.  We discussed the meaning of honor and how we show this in our words and actions.  We shared God’s advice for parents and children in the Bible, siting Ephesians 6:4 and Ephesians 6: 1-2.  We discussed the meaning of provoke and what it means to be obedient.

“Parents, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”  ~ Ephesians 6:4

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”  ~ Ephesians 6: 1-2

I also love Martin Luther’s advice:   (This is beautiful to me!)  “It is a far higher thing to honor someone than to love someone, because honor includes not only love, but also modesty, humility, and submission to a majesty hidden in them.  Honor requires not only that parents be addressed kindly and with reverence, but also that, both in the heart and with the body, we demonstrate that we value them very highly and that, next to God, we regard them as the very highest.”

~Luther’s Large Catechism, the Fourth Commandment

 Memory for next week:

4/20-Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord  forever.

4/23-Be still, and know that I am God.  I will be exalted among the nations.  I will be exalted in the earth! ~Psalm 46: 10

Language Arts- This week, third graders read about recycling and the joys that surround it, while reading a story about Judy Moody in A Mr. Rubbish Mood.   Fourth graders read a science-fiction piece called The Fun They Had, which talked about a world without books, schools, and human teachers.  We had some great discussions!   We also LOVED hearing chapters from Holes, from our Author-of-the-Month, Louis Sachar.

Spelling words for Friday, April 23rd:

 Specials-
