Hi, Parents! We have had a fun, and…interesting
week! ;) The snow, the NLSA team, some crazy science, fractions,
preparing for the end of the year… It was interesting and fun!
* Our school’s spring musical is coming up soon—Friday,
April 30th at 6:30! Mark your calendars! Update: Plans are still in
motion for our kids to perform our spring musical in our school gym. We
will be very spread out. Students should wear their "Sent to
Serve" red shirts and dark pants or jeans (no holes, please). Due to space
requirements, there will only be two guests per student allowed to
attend. Students need to meet in their classroom that evening at
6:00, dressed and ready to go! Thank you!
*As our 4th Quarter gets underway, we want to let you know
that YEARBOOKS ARE ON SALE! Order now at
inter-state.com/flyerentry/56423NK. The deadline to order is
05/28/2021. Yearbooks will either be mailed to you or hand delivered at
the start of next school year. Paper reminders are coming home
today.
*Our 4th quarter mission project, Lead a Child,
is underway! So far, our class has raised $245.86, which has surpassed
our classroom goal of $240.00 to send a child to school! Nice job, 3rd/4th
grades! The competition ends next Friday. The winning class gets to
soak their teacher on Fun Day with a water gun battle! ;) I have
attached a letter giving you more details. https://www.leadachild.org/
*If you have full-sized brown paper bags lying around at
home, we could really use them at school for our upcoming book report
projects. Thank you!
Here is what we have learned this week:
Religion- This week, we talked about faith affects
our relationships, why God gave us the church, and how the church blesses
us. We had some neat discussions about how we are one church all over the
world, with people we have never even met, who worship The One True God!
Our reminder for the week: “Act justly. Love mercy.
Walk humbly with your God. “ ~Micah 6:8
Memory for next week:
4/27-Abide with me, fast falls the eventide.
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
4/29-I need Thy presence ev'ry passing hour;
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's pow'r?
Who like Thyself my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me.
Language Arts- This week, third graders learned
all about Barnum Brown and how he discovered dinosaur bones, that led to a
bunch of discoveries about the Albertosaurus/Tyrannosaurus Rex. :)
One thing that I emphasized to the kids was that he discovered that he loved
bones, after accidentally finding one while he was helping his family plow
their fields. My point was, don’t waste your time away by staying indoors
in front of a screen…something you discover in our world could point you to
your passion or your hobbies or your career. We have to have our eyes
WIDE open and paying attention to this world that God created for US and its
possibilities. My soap box. ;) Fourth graders learned about
Sacajawea, and her contributions to Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery
as they traveled the west…including our Missouri and the Mighty MO! We
also LOVED hearing chapters from Holes! We are almost finished!
Spelling words for Friday, April 30th:
3rd- (from Dogzilla) mood, wooden, drew,
smooth, blue, balloon, true, crooked, chew, tooth, hooves, cool, food, pooch,
loose, jewel, *cacophony
4th- (from Moon Runner) unused, refresh,
dislike, replace, unpaid, redo, disorder, unplanned, distrust, rewind, untrue,
unload, recall, displease, uneven, rebuild, restart, uncover, untidy, discolor,
disband, rearrange, *cacophony
Math- Third graders tested over expressions,
equations, and variables and began fractions this week! Fourth graders
continued to work with finding equivalent fractions, putting fractions in
simplest form, and comparing and ordering fractions. Keep practicing
those math facts! We will have our contest in a few weeks to see who has
their 0-9’s memorized!
Social Studies-We learned ways to fact-check the
internet, start our own businesses, and about a tortoise named Diego in our
Scholastic News this week.
Science-This week, we used our mini recyclers and pH
strips to test plain water, salt water, acidic water, and dirty water.
Please make sure you ask us about our discoveries!
Specials-
Art-We reviewed the water cycle by creating art water
cycles out of construction paper, cotton balls, aluminum foil, rice, and
more. They are super cool!
Writing-We have written our animal research report
rough drafts and are now revising, editing, and publishing.
Computer Lab-We published our written
work.
P.E.-This week, we did yoga in the classroom.
We did several yoga stretches, learned how to do a sequence, and how to
breathe. We shared how during this breathing time is an excellent time to
talk to God! https://youtu.be/sM5MGLMNN_E
Later this week, we walked the cross-country course!
Music-We practiced songs for the Spring Musical in
the gymnasium. We are almost ready!
Spanish-This week, the student “traveled” to
Guatemala and learned about the culture there!
